Cheap Costumes that actually look good?!

Perhaps this is too good to be true, but I just found a website that has some very cheap costumes (both latin/rhythm and standard/smooth) - and (here's the suprising part) some of them actually look good! Has anyone heard of this site/done business with them?

Hey, isn't that "Honeydew Ballroom Dress" just like the one KatherineH just got?

I noticed that many of the dresses use Korean rhinestones. That probably helps to keep the costs down. Anyone know how much Korean stones cost, and how they compare to the Austrian and Czech?

It also says that Swarovski stones are available on most of the dresses at additional cost - I wonder how much extra it is? At least they give you the option of whether or not to pay for the good ones.

Hi,
" I noticed that many of the dresses use Korean rhinestones. That probably helps to keep the costs down. Anyone know how much Korean stones cost, and how they compare to the Austrian and Czech? "

As far as I know, it's around $2 per gross of the Korean rhinestones vs $17 per gross of Austrian rhinestones over here. If you are interested into more details, please PM me ....

One of the korean rhinestone manufacturer contacted me awhile back and the wholesale was approx 30c gross versus the $5 per gross ( wholesale) for swarovski

I think most of these seller get there dresses from the same source as I have a couple of the plain dresses pictured there.

BTW the korean stones had zero sparkle

LOL I need to take a pic on my maniquin Laura but probably once I finished stoning which I haven't started yet bc I haven't decided which direction to go. How much is 150 pouns in US$ nowadays $225 ?

Some of them are in China, where respect for Western copyright laws is considered quaint.

Is a dress design copyrightable anyway? People have been doing knock-offs for ages. I think it's only a problem if it's something like the Gucci and Louis Voutton fakes where they also copy the company's name and/or logo. So long as the dress doesn't SAY Chrisanne on it, then what legal grounds are there?

I definitely agree that exact copies are cheesy.

By the way, I was looking at the Chrisanne US web site recently and saw a dress that was stoned in a way extremely similar to something I did back in the summer of 2002 and wore to the USDSC that year. The dress fabric color and the stoning colors and patterns were so similar that I did a double-take. Should I call my lawyer?

Hmm. I wish I was moving near you, Laura. If I was, I'd beg you to be my sewing mentor. As it is, I'll have to fumble along on my own, making idiotic mistakes all the way. Oh well. Such is life. :?

If they are indeed within reach of the lawyers, it would look like someone has a much, much stronger claim:

"RED SWAROVSKI COUTURE BALLROOM GOWN.................COMES WITH 15 GROSS OF CRYSTAL A/B CZECH RHINESTONES."
