Competition dress choice; heel height; re-wearing dresses; & salsa/mambo question

Yeah, no doubt! All those so-called "won't ride down" top bands are bull. I have NEVER, ever, ever EVER EVER worn any foundation garment that did NOT either ride up or slide down when & where it wasn't supposed to. Hence the safety pins.

I'm getting so annoyed with the fishnets that I'm contemplating bare legs. Super heavily tanned, super heavily "gleamed" or sparkly or however you describe it - but... I just don't think I can dance freely like that, knowing that all the loose skin everywhere from my knees to my waist is jiggling at all times.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: GRAVITY SUCKS.
yo, use my promo code for Gleam, lady! 20% off! IT'S THE BOMB.

for the period thing, if you can, get a Mirena IUD. I haven't had a period in 10 years and it is the MOST GLORIOUS THING IN THE WORLD. then you will never have to worry about any underwear or pads or anything in a dress again. THE FREEDOM.
Amen, sister! I've gotten a new Mirena put in every 4.5 years since 2007 - best hormone regulation in the world. And insurance covers it.

Has anyone ever tried the Capezio Ultra Soft Full Body Tights - such as these?

And even if you've never tried them, what's the consensus on whether solid/matte tights can ever be successfully worn under a rhythm dress (vs fishnets)?

I have worn something similar in Danskin. They were certainly more comfortable than fishnets and they hid, pulled in, held together, etc. as well as fishnets. I've even worn them under fishnets to try and avoid some of the discomfort the fishnets cause me. This did look okay, but not as good as just fishnets. And the combination was somewhat cumbersome. To just wear the tights by themselves was not a very good look. They looked dull and not at all what I thought I wanted for a polished "ballroom" look. Hope this helps.

I vote no on this for competition. I’ve practiced in something like this, but would not do it for a comp. as much as I hate wearing fishnets, they do give your legs a nice finished look. These just make me think I am hiding my old sagging skin and not fooling anybody.

I don't hate fishnets, but I can't find any full-body ones that come all the way up under the breasts, are low-backed, and include clear plastic shoulder straps. I hate muffin top more than just about anything else, so I just keep looking for different ways around that problem.

I always cut the tops of my fishnets off. I think I read this doesn’t work for you, unfortunately. I guess I’m lucky that I’ve never had a problem doing this and it totally avoids the muffin top and bare back problem.

that seems like a lot of work. you could get a slightly larger size and pull the fishnets up to under your bust. I've heard of other dancers doing that.
So, I tried this. The larger size fishnets in Tall were an improvement, but I still had to snip the back of the waistband, because the dress is backless & comes down very low. This made the waistband too loose to stay up by itself under my bust in the front...but it still works with the safety pins. This time I pinned the fishnets to the bra band itself, rather than the inside lining of the dress, which worked better.

I think my biggest concern would be what if the safety pins will become undone during dance and how do you go to the bathroom? Granted going to the bathroom in full costume during comp is always a challenge at least for me :)

There is also one's that are soft and the toes are open. View attachment 4307 I usually find them on Ebay by searching "open to dance fishnet". I search in the title and the description.
I tried them on 2 occasions - for a showcase and the competition - unfortunately, they don't work for me. It seems like a wonderful idea, but overtime that connection piece digs in between my toes and causes a tremendous amount of pain.

This is an excellent point. The handful of events I’ve attended in full comp attire were all shorter than 3 hours. The only full-day event I did had a lunch break in the middle, so I was able to change from smooth costume to rhythm costume (and visit the bathroom) over the break. Now that you pointed it out, I realize that it’s never been necessary for me to use the bathroom while fully costumed. But yeah, suddenly those safety pins everywhere feel like less of a good idea!

Could you tack the fishnets into the bodysuit of your dress? Just some stitches where you're considering safety pins, which you could snip out again after the comp. It would still require undressing completely to use the bathroom, but without as much danger of bloody scratches in the process.

I'm really scratching my head now. PNP, I thought you wore some kind of skimmy/short to prevent fishnet chafing in the thighs (or is that only done if the length of the dress doesn't reveal the skimmy/short?).
If you do wear a skimmy/short, is there a way to attach fishnets to that garment?
(I will admit, for me, this is starting to fall into the category of "too much information"! )
