Competition dress choice; heel height; re-wearing dresses; & salsa/mambo question

I'm really scratching my head now. PNP, I thought you wore some kind of skimmy/short to prevent fishnet chafing in the thighs (or is that only done if the length of the dress doesn't reveal the skimmy/short?).
If you do wear a skimmy/short, is there a way to attach fishnets to that garment?
(I will admit, for me, this is starting to fall into the category of "too much information"! )
The skimmies (thin nude shorts) are wonderful to prevent thigh chafing, but I only wear them under my street clothes, because they are visible under all my dance dresses (which open out on spins all the way up).

It’s 2023… Do I still need fishnets for Latin? Pro seems to think so but it seems like his default request. And what about closed syllabus am/am? I am in my early thirties, pretty skinny, but of course there are still dimples and jiggles. I *do* have them in a natural skin color and suntan… but I end up just shaking my head and taking them off whenever I try them on. I would much prefer to tan & do leg makeup.

Need is too strong a word.

The advantage of fishnets over makeup is a consistency of texture when viewed from a distance. That has some value.

But in the end, a small aesthetic thing like that shouldn't, in theory, make a judging difference. I wear glasses and a beard, for example, even though those are arguably aesthetically undesirable, and I can't detect that I'm losing any significant ground with the judges as a result.

i would vote yes. along with tanning and leg makeup. unless you have a dress that doesn't allow for fishnets.

"Dimples and jiggles" lol - what a perfect description. Me too, but I'm 20+ years older than you. I personally prefer to wear fishnets (on top of a dark spray tan) bcs they smooth out my overall silhouette - like Spanx for legs. But there are at least 3 ladies in my studio around my age who also compete, place very well, and don't even own fishnets. I can't tell the difference unless I'm right next to them.

Some ppl say fishnets interfere with their mood/vibe/juju/aura and swear they dance better without that type of constriction. I'm in the camp of feeling like I'm not completely dressed unless I'm wearing them for Rhythm; but that's just my personal preference.

Agreed. I just tan hard, no fishnets.
If you saw how pale my legs are, my phrasing would totally make sense. I spend almost no time outside, but somehow my arms look normal but my legs are ghostly white. I posted photos of myself on social media this past summer at an outdoor dance event where I was wearing a dress but hadn't tanned (it was not a comp or anything formal), and even I was shocked at how they looked in the pictures.

Reviving the thread to ask what might be a dumb question - what order does everything go? Underwear (?), bodysuit or dance pants, then fishnets?
Depends! I usually do bra, body suit, fishnets (if I am wearing them), dress. No undies don’t want to risk them showing but bra is not optional for me.

Regarding fishnets...When I started competing (at a fads, not sure if that matters) I was told fishnets are expected/proper/necessary. When I switched to an independent (Eastern European and younger) teacher I was told that was old-fashioned. I don't wear them anymore and very few if any of the top ladies I compete against do either. I imagine as I continue to age, I might start wearing them again for my own comfort/confidence level. I do a pretty dark tan now though.
