I wonder if the successful use of pins is about application technique or about the amount of hair you have to stick them into. My hair is very thin and fine, and I could never figure out how to get the ornament securely attached with pins, so that's why I just went to all glue. But obviously lots of people do use pins, so there must be a way.

I have had a hair ornament that i've used multiple times a year - for about 7 years. they last a long time. i occasionally have hairsprayed over it, it still looks fine.
I've used clear elmer's glue, it behaves like eyelash glue, honestly. the backing doesn't get affected by either. i've just rubbed any excess glue off of the hairpiece back.
the pins are not usually terribly noticeable, especially on the dance floor. So you may be able to see the edge of the pin close up, but not from any distance. I use pins in a few places where i think it needs it, and then glue as well.

if you use a vendor they will handle this for you...they do get dull quickly if you spray them....I would ask an experienced person to pin it

Could I use Elmer's Glue on my ear as well, to secure my earring? It went flying during Paso the last time.
The only way to know is Monte Carlo simulations. Try it a few hundred thousand times on lessons and record the results.

I prefer Monte cristo simulations. With extra jam.
Food is also my love language, I think we can be friends.
I tell all my customers to use eyelash glue on their earrings both clip and pierced. Never an issue if done correctly. Even with pro's speed, including hoops.

I use eyelash glue on my ballroom earrings (which are all clip-ons, although I have pierced ears). A couple dabs on either side, wait a bit while it gets sticky, then clamp the earrings on and hold in place for about 15 seconds.
This is what I've done for all mini-matches, fun nights, showcases, and the one comp I've done so far. Never had any problems.
I once lent a pair of clip-on earrings to another woman at the studio who discovered that she forgot hers and needed something “RIGHT NOW” at a competition. She did the glue thing, and when she handed the earrings back to me, one of them was broken because the glue stuck to her skin and so she ripped the earring apart to get it off. She didn’t even have the courtesy to say “sorry.”

I do have a pair of earrings that I like that are both post and clip at the same time - which i really like - and i don't need to use eyelash glue with those.
