Me me!! I would totally do this. I'm not sure I could ever manage it on my own, though. I'm just not that good. Routinely wonder how I mess up blow drying short hair!

I like doing hair. I do charge for it at comps, but am extremely cheap compared to vendors... downside is I will only do max one other person on the day I dance, and that's usually my roommate :)

Sometimes I'll stick around the day after I compete and do a few ladies dancing other styles, but not often.
 
Somehow my brain keeps trying to connect post #573 and post #601.... currently playing with the idea of using an unrolled bun sock thing, stuffing it with hair, segmenting it with elastics to create "buns", then attaching the "train of buns" to another bit of unrolled bun stuff which has been made into a beanie shaped hat,...... umm..... add a stretchy lace head band around the rim of the beanie.... and ..... a cool comp look for ladies with bald headso_O ....sure that would get the judges attention!!
Will have a go and see if it will work and add photos later. Oh, and the hair weaving worked, I just haven't made it into anything yet. I am obviously missing dancing:meh:

Hmmmm, interesting; i have very curly/kinky/frizzy but fine hair, and when i try those lovely braids that you then "pancake"/pull out slightly to get more volume, my hair IMMEDIATELY turns into frizz bomb. no matter how much it's been smoothed. I wonder if crimping would help keep the frizz a little more under control...
 
Question for the hive mind: anyone use Elnett extra strong hold? I've used got2b glued but don't like the way the spray comes out (not fine enough). I have a giant Schwarzkopf Silhouette can, but it's too big for travel.
 
I've used it for a show and it was fine, but I find it doesn't hold strong enough for the rigours of competition - where I will be napping/sleeping on it, changing costumes, dancing multiple rounds back-to-back, etc.
 
I dunno if it comes in travel sizes, but I've had good luck with Aussie freezing spray. Similar price point to got2b glued, I found the smell much more pleasant. Don't recall if it came out finer so it might not address your issue, but maybe it's another option to check out?

ETA: I am a guy but my female ballroom friends said it also worked well on their hair.
 
Has anyone used non-aerosol hairspray for dance hair? My hairdressser used it yesterday for a wedding updo and apparently it's very good for shiny hair.
 
Yes, I use a pump bottle (have used various brands), and it works fine for me. But despite my hair's tendency to curly wisps, it's quite thin and fine, so it doesn't place enormous demands on a hairspray. I've lately been using Brocato Powerfix, since its descriptions/reviews said it was good for both hold and shine, but I haven't noticed any exceptional shine from it, so I'll probably go cheaper again once this is used up.
