Dance comp in Philly

got to catch am. latin finals saturday nite... pro had a couple extra tickets. very nice. also the showdance comp... the geckman's space-agey pop-n-lock standard medley was so creative...

thank you! Did you stay for latin? did you dance smooth as well

No, we were leaving as you were leaving, so we missed all the Latin and the pro showdance. Just like you, we had things to do on Sunday.

Smooth was scheduled for Friday afternoon, which would have required both of us to take a day of vacation, something I cannot do. Teaching school allows for great vacations, but there's not flexibility in when they're taken.

Thanks for the latin results, DanceSomatics!

Congrats on the double win, Nik and Natasha! WOW!

Great result for Velislav Veliov and Christine DeMaio. I'm surprised Alex and Elijah didn't place higher. I obviously wasn't there on Sat, but I usually really enjoy their dancing. Glad to see Tal and Kate right up there in the mix! Big fan of theirs. No Valentin Chmerkovskiy and Valeriya K?

just checked heat list. i dance at 7:48 a.m. on sunday... niiice.

<"let this never happen again," said to universe with all the dignity i can muster>

just observed that there's no VW in the scholarship. huh. interesting. it's a combined closed bronze/silver/gold scholarship, so, well... all i can do is my best. eh.

Samina, can't wait to hear about your competition yesterday. How does it compare to your first?

well, thanks for asking, Some Day!

it was MUCH better than my first comp... i am very pleased. i enjoyed the experience thoroughly... the only thing is that i wanted more, more events to be dancing in, more chances to get out there & dance. i'm so new that being out there feels a bit like walking on wet cement... not yet ready for traffic... but i really enjoyed the opportunity to put what i'm learning to the test. it felt good.

i was also pleased with my dress, which needed some length to fall in a more acceptable zone around my ankles. i added the length myself... found some lovely burnished gold georgette, which i hand-sewed to the hem. will make a matching float for the dress for my next comp. and for my hair, i managed a nice bun without adding any extension... and did the stoning myself... overall, this comp represented a solid feeling of personal accomplishment for me. i am very happy with the entire experience.

also, i danced on 2 hours sleep with no food... felt like a real pro. ;)

i'll post a notice when my pix are up.

Yay, for you! Sounds absolutely wonderful. Can't wait to see your dress and your new blonde look! ;) Thanks for sharing your comp experience here on DF. It allows us (who are too chicken and/or have no money) to live the excitement (vicariously) of a dance competition... :D

thank you so much for your kind words, SD... :)

as for being chicken & lacking funds... if you wanna do it, there's a way to overlook those things... i have not been coming from a monied position. and i've never been one to easily take center stage. but somehow i've moved in the direction i wanted to go, and it's been coming together. :)

fwiw, this comp, i actually completely avoided the jitters... every time they emerged, i reminded myself that i was doing this because i want to, because it makes me happy... i'd tell myself that i was made for this, that it is my absolute joy to dash onto the floor and dance, otherwise, why i am doing it, you know? and it really worked...! :)

This is an unbiased comment. She was beautiful in her sky blue dress, and she was relaxed. Frankly, I was not sure if it was her, so I called her name loudly as a test. She turned around to the direction of the noise with the composure of a seasoned pro, flashing great smile. There was no sign of nervousness. Then, I knew that it was her. Her dance was flawless. It looks that her hard work paid off handsomely.
I was so lucky to have an opportunity to watch her performance.

CC, you are very kind. :)

it was a delightful surprise to see you there!
felt like having a bit of the "home team" at an away game. ;)

Too much Partying in Italy :), he got a cold so they withdrew.

You and your partner were head and shoulder above the rest in Am category and most of the pros. Even I could tell who was going to win in both Standard and Latin. I ate next to your father and he was mighty proud of you.

I so can see that, even though I was not there.
