Dance marathons

Has anyone ever taken part in one? What was it like? Did you enjoy it (after the aching had stopped)? Would you do it again? What, if anything, did you wish you knew before hand?

:o Right!! Translating running into dance and you will get what I mean.

A little imagination is always required to deal with a person like me P. :)

 Some would say that I have TOO MUCH imagination!

The dance marathons I am thinking of are ones that last 5 hours? Or even a day or three days, as in the Jane Fonda movie, "They shoot horses don't they" (I believe the title was)

Oh!! 5 hours wasn't a marthon to me before, and it still isn't if the conditions are right and the music sets me on fire. If music is so-so 2 hours and I feel out of it...

  I am not talking about an "ordinary night of dancing"! I am talking about an event advertised/marketed as a dance marathon for charity or a competition or for what ever other reason the organisers could think off.

My understanding of a dance marathon is that you dance with the same person through out, no breaks to change shoes and you have to maintain a certain speed/keep up with the music being played, through out.

Dance Marathon is a charity event where all dancers are NOT allowed to sit for a whole night. It runs from afternoon till noonish the second day. It's about 24 hrs without sitting. We have a dance marathon club that organizes the event. Basically, we ask for business donation and support. Each person going to dance marathon is required to pay a certain amount of entry fee. This goes to charity. The entry fee and all extra donations all come from small local business. It's a really fun night. There are dancing, board games, food, and lot of other things.

Oh. I know some people whom I would ask and love dancing with the whole night....hmmm....

A question -- in dance marathons, how do you get around the basic problem of having to eat, drink and go to the toilet now and again?

Well, if dancing 7 hours of salsa(of course I had breaks!) in one night constitutes a marathon, then I've done plenty. I've only RUN one marathon in my life, the 1984 San Francisco marathon(time 3:40) and I don't think I'd be able to do that again...

We had a Dance Marathon in college, I scoured the dorm for a willing partner, sure I could win,
and found one. (I can't even remember who!)
We won, through sheer determination, and of course, good dancing, if i may say so myself.
We lasted 5 hours and something, until the last couple gave up. It was fun.
W.U. Dance Marathon Champ 1975!
Haha, I'd forgotten all about this. Thanks, Pacion, for restoring a good memory!

I've been a crazy dancing cat all my life!
:D

I have an opportunity for something like a dance marathon coming up this weekend. A local charity fundraising event, workshops all afternoon (salsa, cha cha, son, rueda, mambo on2...) then straight into a salsa night. 12 hours in total. Doesn't seem much if you consider what we do on congress weekends, so I'm thinking about doing a "12 hours on the dancefloor" fundraiser, except that there are not break times for refuelling... :?

Ooooh, sounds great! Maybe I can get my dance school to organise a dance marathon! :P
Mwahaha, I can dance all night!
Erm, that is, for a couple of hours...

Twilight Elena

P.s. I have to work on my stamina...
