Dirty Dancing (the movie)

Dirty Dancing has a lot to answer for

If I dance after a few drinks I tend to dirty dance with inanimate objects such as speakers  :?

My parents have a video of me doing it too and they tend to play it every damn year when the family come round

 Anyone got a huge magnet spare so I can wipe the tapes? 8) :o :(

you really should get a magnet - probably pretty soon.
good luck with it.

It sometimes really has a big advantage that we don't have a tv at home. ;)

@Pacion
thanks for not throwing tomatos, feels good not to be all over red with tomatos ;)

btw, i think that javier and the girl - i can't keep names in mind in general (except john travolta maybe ;) )have a pretty good chemistry. Maybe
I like it more since I've seen it before the first one. I know that my brother doesn't like havannah nights - since it's the whole same story - water scene, .... everything. The feeling which the havannah nights creates is just great.

i guess my comment doesn't fit too much with other opinions here.
i think patrick s. is icky!!! i mean he really is. He is not smart, not good looking, just yuk. i don't want to think of him. he is like a bear, which you just taught walking.

Hmm. I find him quite unappealing myself, but what appeals to you is very personal, eh? I never thought much of his acting either.

That said, I watched the original Dirty Dancing several times when I was a teenager. I watched it again with the husband recently as he'd never seen it and it was a better film than I remembered. A bit obvious at some points but not a bad film at all.

No I like the first Dirty Dancing more. Patric Swayze and Baby got that chemistry I cannot find in Havanna Nights. (Perhaps that chemistry is between me and Patric Swayze   ) And the rumab streetdancing i great. I really like to learn more about this kind of rumba - learn my body I mean.

I wouldn't say that the problem is about the chemestry. Javier still looks like a boy (we would say "Milchbubi " in german. Don't know the english word for that) while Patrick S. already looked like a man when he played in that movie.

You are right about this. Javier looks like a young boy. The girl looks much more adult and have a noble class - more English aristocrat than American upperclass. I don't think she would have looked at Javier if it was a "true" story. A man of Chayennes or Patric Swayze type would have fitted her more. Or perhaps it would have been more my own taste. Perhaps that is where the chemestry goes wrong....

(I have never liked Patric Swayzes look but I love the rest of him  ...especiallly the dance  )

Dirty Dancing is the all time greatest

I have watched dirty dancing since as long as I can remember. I remember my babysitter got in trouble when I was like 6 or 7 for letting me watch it. That movie is what got me loving dancing the way that I do today

Welcome to the Forums, DancingFreak4Life!

It's always exciting to hear stories about how people got started in dancing. I agree Dirty Dancing certainly makes you want to "get up off that seat and dance till you feel better." :D

I too got my start in dancing by being inspired through the movie industry - Center Stage.

Looking forward to seeing more of you on the discussion boards!

What is really great about a movie like Center Stage is that you can go to that theater and see a ballet. If you are ever in NYC, just go to Lincoln Center to the State Theater.

Ethan Stiefel still dances with ABT, but you will have to go across the plaza to see him at the Metropolitan Opera House. NYCB performs at the State Theater.

I just watched the first part again where she sees them dancing for the first time, and the last dance, where they are doing what I believe is a classic mambo. It's inspiring.

I know what you mean about Center Stage. I love ballet. I wish sometimes as a kid I would of gotten into ballet instead of just regular dance lessons. I went a couple years back and seen one when I was in Chattanooga and I loved. The way they move and everything just seems magical. I have to admit though I have regrets about not doing ballet but then again I don't because I love dancing the way I do now. I watched Dirty Dancing when I went home last night and it amazes me when I think this is the movie that started it all for me. I could watch that movie everyday.[/quote]
