Do you pay attention to the lyrics of the songs you dance to?

I get a little squeamish during some American songs too. (I acknowledge I may be a bit too conservative in that aspect, but some dancers like to take music and movement out of dance context. So, I try to be mindful. )

To me, spice is spice, regardless of the language, and my movement depends on the dance ettiquette maturity level of my dance partner.

I'm only getting so close for a sensual bacahta unless I know my partner is there for the dance and not hoping to be elsewhere with me later.

For me, it’s just partner familiarity. I don’t do anything too over-the-top with anyone I don’t know very well. But it certainly can be fun to do dance moves that play on the lyrics. I’ve always thought West Coast swing dancers have been especially good at that.

I wholeheartedly agree! When it's a partner that I am familiar with, it's so much fun to do moves that play off the lyrics. I, too, admire that aspect of the Westies vocabulary.

I dance while singing man!!
Saaaame! At least while social dancing. Sometimes I can get my partner to harmonize with me!

I pick all my routine songs based on the lyrics. (Song where we're madly in love! Song where one of us is possessively in love! Song where I show off a boy! Song where I off him out of jealousy! Party song where we break into a line dance sequence at the end!)--But I was a singer long before I was a dancer.

My Spanish is terrible though, so I have only the vaguest idea what's going on in the Spanish songs the DJ plays.

And yeah, comfort level with acting out spice amounts to "How well do I know this person" + "Are they generally comfortable with it, to my knowledge, and huge hams?" sometimes with a side of "Can I make my partner laugh by doing this?"

I have the same problem with Latin music, where I love the songs so much but I only have a light understanding of what they are about. I can speak a little Spanish, but definitely not at the level that would allow me to really appreciate the lyrics.

It's so much fun to take on the character of the music and interpret and emote the feelings of the song. I love doing that!
