Lost cause? Nope – I didn’t say that.
Some people are in a position which gives them an opportunity to resist a bully/predator, and to ignore the peer pressure telling them to “not make a scene about it.” Some use the opportunity; some don’t.
Other people are not in a position to effectively resist a predator/bully. Some try anyway; some don’t.
For those who do resist, some pay a price, some don't. Even if they don’t “win” or even if they wait a long time to speak up about the problem, it can still potentially raise awareness of the problem – maybe.
Agree; not an easy choice.
But again, with the scenario above, if a predator/bully would target you, and your friends/acquaintances don’t believe you and/or advise you not to “cause trouble” and to “let it go”: What do YOU do?
