Every Woman Must Own ...

Here's the list I saw today ...

According to Melissa Kirsch, author of "The Girl's Guide to Absolutely Everything" (what a name for a book ), the 6 essential things every woman must own are:

1. The little black dress
2. The neutral-colored, two-inch heel
3. The right bra
4. A colorful warm winter coat
5. A practical bag
6. Sunscreen

Ayuh on the 1st one. :raisebro: Found the 2nd one interesting. Not surprised on the 3rd. The 4th one seems odd if you live in a warm climate, except to travel this could still be a good idea. The 5th is another non-surprise. The 6th seems down right healthy to me.

So ... how do you feel about this list?

Would your top six be the same?

And what would you add if instead you wanted to create a top 10 list?

Well, number 4 is somewhat necessary where I live even though we are supposed to be a warm climate being down in the south and all. But I don't really go for colorful coats. I instead own about every color of scarf possible to dress up the coat with what I'm wearing. I also own a plaid purse that goes with anything if needed to dress up my plain boring black coat. But like I said elsewhere, I'll spend more money on accessories than the basic clothing lol.

And everything else on that list I have too! But I don't know if those would be the top of my list or not.

My top ten would be:

1. Evening dress (red and/or black)
2. Definitely right bra for right outfit, and right color of bra for right outfit.
3. One basic watch to wear any place.
4. One dress up shoe to wear for evening and/or job.
5. Something to put your money and/or keys in when you go places.
6. Cell Phone (for safety reasons if anything at all).
7. Makeup and moisturizer etc.
8. Perfume and/or whatever you use to make yourself smell good.
9. Some basic clothes, so they won't go out of style at the end of the season.
10. A version of the book, He's Just Not That Into You, lol! (Ok I couldn't think of a #10, but every girl should read this book!

Huh. Must have...

Little black dress.
Sexy black shoes (screw neutral)--3" heel, min.
Good suit (imperative for job interviews, weddings and funerals).
Dress coat (to go with suit and/or LBD).
Good purse (to go with coat and suit and/or LBD).
Very outrageous and sparkly costume jewelry--'cause sometimes you need lots of sparkly stuff, and who has that kind of money for the real stuff? (Well, if dancing weren't involved...)
A basic tool set.
A basic car emergency set (and the know-how to use it).
Knowledge of how to use a power drill.
Uh...stuff that I won't mention on this forum.

Ahh, but, the dance shoes are in addition to the 2 inch heels. A woman can never have too many shoes. ;)

OK, so add to that a car with a big enough trunk to hold all your dance shoes and matching bags so that you're covered for every outfit that you might conceivably be wearing at the moment that a dance venue opportunity might arise.

Saw a woman who had just that setup in the trunk of her Mercedes. Maybe that's the reason for the "neutral shoe" item, so that you don't have to pack as much with you. Mine is a pair of black Florsheims, leather soles (incredibly difficult to find anymore), that I always keep in the trunk of my car.

I've been looking for that little black dress for a long time and still haven't found IT. Thankfully, I found a shoe store that has shoes that fit my feet perfectly, so the black sexy heels are off the list.

Exactly! :uplaugh:

My list

A comfortable bra
A stretchy top
A pair of slacks with pockets and belt loops
A wallet with coin compartment which will fit in the pocket of above-mentioned slacks
A cell phone with a belt clip (guess where that one goes ;) )
A jacket
A dance bag with its contents.

And for a dressy occasion:

Little black dress
A pair of pumps to go with it.
A purse (because LBD does not have pockets).

1. LBD - definitely agree. I have a very comfy black swingy/latiny skirt (looks SO sexy with my strappy black pumps...) that I have an assortment of tops that goes with, incl a black blouse that is GREAT for dancing. (Now if I could just get someone to take me dancing... lol)

2. I would change to black shoes.

3. Agreed.

4. Colorful, not necessary. But classic, definitely yes. I'd say a compact umbrella if you were in a hot/moist/rainy climate. (Been there, done that)

5. A practical bag... Eh... Not for me. I minimize what I carry with me. I'm ok as long as I have a pocket for a credit card and some cash, and pocket or clip for my phone (and a small phone).

6. Sunscreen - yes, or moisturizer/lotion with sunscreen in it.

I would add:
1. A nice pair of conservative, classic earrings. Gold or silver, whichever you prefer. I choose silver.

2. A good lip gloss/moisturizer.

3. Some floss. I found one that comes in a package that looks like a credit card. (I might be biased, I work in the dental field. I think EVERYONE should carry floss. :D)
