Exercise/Diet Support Group

Ok, so some general musings.

Looking to lose about 5kg...ultimately 10kg, but let's stick to 5kg for now.

Going to be using a combination of Intermittent Fasting and clean eating. For seven days, I'll be fasting for 19 hours of the day, and eating for 5. I'll be trying to keep everything paleo - natural and unprocessed. So meat, nuts, fruit, and vegetables. Still undecided about pasta and rice...because, well, I love me my rice, but it's got a heck of a lot of carbs.

Exercise-wise, I'm weight training about three times a week, lifting heavy. I dance once a week, and I'll probably start running, or something.

I'll keep you updated on how I go. I'll edit this post in the morning with a weigh-in.

I have been increasingly using an intermittent fasting diet and getting good results. I fast for 16 hours and generally eat between 2 pm to 10 pm. It's great giving the digestive system a rest, and then drinking lots of water to clear things out, and finally starting the first meal of the day with really nutritious food, which has a high absorption rate.

It wasn't a new years resolution because I don't make those. But I've just begun a yogurt making and yogurt using kick. Actually, I'm also exploring making something I might call "progurt"? I make it using the contents of pro-biotic capsules as starter. (The FDA has official regulations for calling a commercial product yogurt. Among other things it needs to contain Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. Some of what I'm making dose. But I'm also making not-FDA-legal yogurt starting with some pro-biotic capsules. So the FDA wouldn't consider that yogurt. )

Today:
  • spread my sandwhich with thickened yogurt made using Fage as a starter. I like this-- it'll be saving some calories relative to using Monteray Jack and mayo.
  • finished up my first batch of "progurt" started with a pro-biotic that contains Lactobacillus paracasei, lactobacillus casei, lactobacillus rhamnosus, and lactobacillus animalis. Not wanting to waste a half gallon of milk, I made 1 1/2 C. I tasted a small amount to see if I would die. (It's quite tart; I'm still alive.) I'll taste a full tablespoon later to day. And then ramp up to a half a cup. If I feel fine, I'll use this as a starter to backslope another batch.
Yes... part of the motivation is losing weight.

These days I have to make most of my progress by calorie restriction and food choices as exercise time is mostly limited to yard work and toddler chasing

Toddler chasing is certainly good exercise! Yard work and dog chasing for me. Supplemented by some trips to the gym, but not enough of those I'm afraid.
