Finding A Dance Partner....A never ending quest

Ok this is kind of a stupid question but I know that I am not the only out there wondering why the heck it is so hard for women to be able to find a dance partner?? In my area, all the good dancer are taken up and thos that I know of that aren't don't relly take competitive dancing too seriously so its like a waste of time. I really am not able to comute too far either so I can be looking for a partner in Hollywood or LA (where most of the guys looking for partners are) because it would make it difficult to practice. And I like to practice every day for at least a couple of hours. Anyway my point is, am I the only totally frustrated person who has been looking for month or even years for a competitive partner and still.... nothing?

As we expand DF over the next year, I hope to add some things that will help in this goal, but don't let me interupt this thread. :)

Keep working at it. It will pay off in the end. Now always in the way you expect, but it will. And believe me- living in CA something is bound to work out- at least people dance there. ;)

In general, the more restrictions you have or the pickier you are, the more difficult it is to find someone. I drive 55 miles each way four times a week to dance with my current teacher (used to drive only 4 each way to dance with my last amateur partner)...and if I had an amateur partner dancing out of that studio that is 55 miles away, then I'd do that because that is what I would have to do.

Also, the older you get, the more difficult it is in general to find a competitive Latin partner. Of course, that depends on where you are located, but where I am it's a lot easier to find a partner for Standard if you are an adult than for anything else. However, if you are still a teenager or in your 20's, there's a lot of people still doing Latin.

The important thing is to not give up. I think the longest I went between partnerships (looking all the while) was two years.

Hang in there, keep practicing, and don't give up. But keep in mind that even if a great guy comes along, it's not forever...my last partner basically quit dancing because of injury. He says he wants to come back, but I really have my doubts. Fortunately I'm too busy with organizing dance comps and with my new pro/am teacher that I don't even want an amateur partnership right now...but some day I think I'd like to do amateur again.

You just have to keep practicing and beliving someone will turn up. Good male partners are like gold dust (well they are in the UK). I am SO fortunate that I started dating a guy who was already a competitive ballroom dancer so we sort of fell into a partnership and a lot of dedication is turning him into a latin dancer and thus us into a ten dance couple. Before that though I had a very lonely year of practicing with either a shadow or a ballet barre as a partner. The longer you go partnerless though the more sorted you'll be in your own technique and the better basis you'll have to dance together.
I'll keep my fingers crossed you find someone soon!

let me see... so you're looking for (dancing) prince charming within a 10-minute drive? I think the best way to find him is to take a frog and teach him Latin... And I'm only half-joking.

Lol! I know. The only thing is though that my car has broken down leaving me to have to ask family for rides. And they get a kick out of it when I ask them to take me to Hollywood or San Diego. I wouldn't mind a partner that would meet me half way or maybe if I could go to his studio half the week and he come over here. I'm not too picky right now. Anyone will do. Even a guy that doesn't know how to dance. But I have been dying to compete for a while now. Please if anhyhone knows of someone looking for an international latin partner contact me por favor! I will do Standard too if they would like. Thanks for the hopeful words!

Good luck on your hunt!

Remember me? I'm still waiting at Avant Garde... lol... just kidding... really, I wish you well in your partnership search.

Well, I was lucky. My partner claimed me right away. I didn't have to ask. He told everyone that I was his partner/girl the first week he started lol. But I did have to wait a long time before he showed up, because it's hard to find partners that don't want to dance pro am at my studio anyways. I don't know if we'll be competing together or not though. We are just practice partners right now. So, hang in there. I have no doubt that someone will come along. ;)
