Ask questions, meet dancers, and be part of the conversation.
Confused: And what has your alias got to do with that Ford model?F: "So...am I maybe a Subaru?
Pure happenstance. My alias is a middle-school nickname, courtesy of a tongue-tied, overexcited soccer coach who butchered my name at the top of his lungs during a game.Confused: And what has your alias got to do with that Ford model?
Your dancing looks nice!
[pause]
But nice isn't really what we want in our performance, is it? Bit dull, really, isn't it, "nice"?
"No...he is a Honda."

Context:
Coach made some kind of throwaway analogy about how a follower experiences a lead like driving a car. Power, responsiveness, smoothness, and so on. Me being me, and my wife being my wife, we immediately seized the opportunity to dive down an irrelevant rabbit hole to figure out what kind of car I would be.
Wife: "Well, you're certainly not a Ferarri."
Coach: "DEFINTELY not. Not even a Mercedes yet."
Fiesta: (anxious to arrest the downward trajectory of the conversation) "Hey, at least I'm not a Volga. Not anymore, at least."
W: "Or a Zaporozhets!"
C: "Oh, please. You were never THAT bad, Fiesta."
Volga and Zaporozhets are famously, meme-tastically terrible Soviet cars. You can read about them on this list of the 19 Worst Cars the Russians Ever Made. Coach sometimes tells horror stories about the secondhand Zaporozhets that was the first car she ever owned
F: "So...am I maybe a Subaru? Those are pretty good."
Wife and I used to drive Subarus. Satisfied customers throughout. No illusions that they were anything more than utilitarian vehicles, though
C: "Hmm...no, you were a Subaru last year I think you're a bit better now."
W: (hopefully) "How about a BMW? Like, a cheap one? Those are high-performance, but not super luxurious.
C: "He's got some work yet before he can be a BMW. No...he is a Honda! Dependable, nice, but unexciting."

Given that Honda is coach's brand of choice, I actually take this as a compliment.
"No...he is a Honda."

That actually says a lot of great things about your frame and connection. When leads first gets in hold with follows, we try to assess immediately how much we'll be able to lead. I imagine something similar goes on in the other direction, too.Pro: “Here’s how it feels to me: when we take hold and start dancing, I think you can follow anything I lead.”
Me: “Umm…I’d love for that to be true, but I don’t think it is.”
Pro: “No, it’s definitely not true! But nevertheless, it’s what I think when we start. And then reality kicks in.”

In case the link doesn’t work for any of you, or for DF visitors in future for whom the original site might no longer be active (that has happened to me many times in some of the older threads here), I’m pasting the content below because it’s too funny not to share. I mean, literally laugh-out-loud-funny.
