How Are Your Lessons Going? Thread 3

Because I have always been a quick learner academically, it's humbling how slow a learner I am in dance.
I've been told I'm "talented" but here's the thing, everyone hits a wall at some point. Some people hit it quicker in the beginning levels, but if not you will still hit it in intermediate or advanced levels.

You reach that point where to overcome and improve, you have to do solo drills, consistent work on yourself, regular consistent discipline of the basic mechanics. And a lot of "talented" people give up at the intermediate level whereas someone who had to work hard from day 1 will continue working hard and push thru further. And get better and better.

Does anyone know, why is it when you're working on turns, it sometimes get worse and worse like you now don't know how to turn?

Showcase lesson today, I had shown a video of Yegor and Tatiana to Pro asking if we could do some of the moves. It was a double spin on one leg finishing and then a back bend.
I was able to follow his double spin lead a few times but the more we did it - because Pro wanted to fix certain details, the more I lost the general ability to do spins on one leg.

Finally he was like: "Ok we need to move on."

Why does it happen, do my internal core muscles get tired?

I would first suspect a muscle tension thing. Turns work best with soft joints that can actively control balance, but our natural instinct is to tense up and LOSE that activation when we're straining for greater control.
Heh. I do notice sometimes after vacation my turns are better.

I wonder what I might be tensing instead of relaxing.

I would think it could also be muscle fatigue. You (or anyone) can probably only get so many excellent reps in, especially with a difficult or newer skill, before one or more of the muscles needed for the movement gets fatigued. Concentration can also wane when repeating the same skill over and over. Sometimes brain and/or body just need to switch gears for a bit.

For turns, sometimes I used to find that doing a few turns in the opposite direction would help reset things. Or doing some linear skills. Or trying again the next day.
