how are your lessons going? thread II

OK so I had to google "avuncular"....

Two lessons last night, one comp prep with progress check from another instructor, the other for paso Showcase. Both productive. Now wearing sports bra to basically every dance lesson (both here and with comp pro elsewhere). I'm once again at the "climbing the hill" phase (currently at the bottom), having to constantly remind myself that things are not going to get mastered on the first try.

double showdance lesson last friday, which was lovely. worked out most of the kinks, but need to recut the ending of the music. Also tried out the outfit i bought for the performance, and it was...meh. I didn't realize the top was a crop top, and it kept riding up. it did not meet with acclaim by others in the studio. so trying to rethink the look. Comp this weekend, though, with lots of competitors, so that should be fun.

I"m going to watch the pros with a group from the "new to me" studio.

I suspect the old to me studio people will not be there because both their competition pros no longer work there.

Have fun! I have two loooong days. 9 faces for makeup on friday starting at 6:30am, i don't compete until 10:30pm, and then up again to do 7 faces at 5:30am on Saturday. then competing at 3pm. I'm gonna need to take ALL THE NAPS. i am a little bummed that my main competition is not doing rhythm this weekend - i finally beat her in a couple of single dances last time and was looking forward to seeing how i'd do in the multi, and she's only doing smooth and standard! dang it.

I have great news for you. Just realized who you are IRL. I've been going to your "new to me" studio for over a year now. The team and students there are amazing! It's a very well run studio whether you are interested in social or competitive dancing. I've done many comps and showcases with them and have been really happy with my pro and am partners. The other students are very friendly and supportive even if you are hard on yourself and don't dance as well as you'd like (which is how I am).

Also, your "old to me" pro is a great addition to fill in things like AT and WCS which our studio has not historically done a lot of.

Too bad I missed you at Crystal since I danced on Friday and watched on Sat afternoon. Maybe I will see you at the party on Friday and you can figure out who I am IRL. ;)

Tango crisis number 10000000.... :(
Not much time to practice these weeks, and really strange methods in our school..
Every lesson something different, never repeating, "just practice enough" - and if I do - I KNOW I will be practicing wrong and destroying my own progress... A difficult Tango dance time.

I'm glad I've been dancing Salsa for so long, it is my antidepressivum these days.

great lessons lately. Double lesson on showdance and then double lesson on rhythm - rounds and clean up. had fun making the showdance more performance-y. Lots of detail, and i was able to contribute to making it fancy schmancy.

Rythym is mostly prep for next comp, but also was able to change a small part in cha cha that always sucked, and the run-throughs are going well. really pleased! i thought i had more time before the next comp, but um 5 lessons left, so a lot of the ideas we talked about working on for before comp will have to be post-comp :p. should be nothing but clarifying transitions and extending lines for the next few lessons.

I am afraid to jinx this but things are good: After surgery and lots of PT and hard work, body pain is way less, latin technique- after 7 years -finally feels more "in my body". Pro and I now have a great dance "connection" and can mess around working on open routines and even mirror each other spontaneously and it feels the choreo he makes is more "me". Lots of laughs as well as productive work. It just all feels right at the moment. Hope it lasts. Don't know if it will translate into comp results, but at this point, I just want to dance happy. And right now I'm having a blast.

Hey Fasc, how did your lesson go?

I had to cancel last week because of something that came up at work, so I'm really looking forward to this week.
