How are your practices going?

Solo practicing "balance on 3" in waltz, and really lowering into the standing leg. Trying to increase strength for more power/longer step on '1'. Also looking at the shapes in transitions - like from chasse into 1/2 natural. I am enjoying working with a basic routine and seeing what kind of shape and volume I can get, while staying in balance.
Foxtrot was metronomic action using feather, reverse turn, reverse wave combos. Again, lowering into standing leg, moving leg fully extended and pushing off to try and get that little bit more extension. Fun!!

Practice with one of my amateur partners. I'm more consistent with the heel leads on my Double Reverse Spin, but they still need work. And now, my right shoulder keeps shoving itself forward and getting in the way.

not a lot of practice since the recent lessons - car issues, kids birthday parties (and sickness too!), family event, work. A little mambo drill, and i have a new thing that needs to be a big focus - i really don't like to go through center before i turn. just throw my body into it. I only nail finishing them because i use strength to do that, and so it lacks the effortless look - and also takes a ton of effort from me! came up in both lessons, then in group last night. i think the shoulders are getting better, but i still need to spend time on getting into and out of basic turns, using my core, keeping my shoulders down, and using the ground more.

Ok that was a lot i just typed. sheesh.

Was really lazy with practice yesterday, but I did start to feel much more comfortable in paso with limiting my amount of spine shift and keeping my posture consistent throughout the movement (still feels uncomfortable as all get-out though).

When I dance as a lead, I can do the heel leads on DRS ok, but sometimes I get "stuck" and we end up TOTALLY unglued at the end of the spin.....I still remember the time I got my first DRS telemark combo - we stopped in astonishment and did a high five:). And the hilarity the first time I tried to lead a Vwaltz - I couldn't go straight down the long side. I stopped to apologize and the lady kept on going:dancingbanana:it was really funny. I enjoy leading now and again.

We had an abysmal turnout for our first week of lessons last night. Thanks, Iowa caucus! Hopefully we'll get a better turnout next week or I have no idea what we're gonna do :/ I normally would get to work on my technique as a lead during the beginner class but we had such low numbers I wasn't needed as a lead.

Short solo practice last night. As leader, worked on CBM in bronze Quickstep, and heel leads on my Double Reverse Spins. Then turned to bronze Samba as a leader, but spent time on my whisks, so that counts for follower, too. Ended by working on some styling choices in a Cha Cha showdance.

Had a little bit of open practice time before stuff started, did some swing, jive, and both styles of foxtrot- my ankle held up! Felt much better than it has. I would do about 15-30 seconds of a routine, then walk a "lap" around the floor, then do a bit more to keep the ankle limber.

Been trying to work my choreography a lot in practices this week, focusing on nailing corrections where they were given and clarifying what I'm doing in places where I'm not 100% clear in my steps; also working in the general technique notice I was given last time my coach's partner worked with me that I need to more consistently and deliberately bend my legs to move them from one point to another in Latin (obvious exception being any form of rond de jambe) and to achieve more of a strike look with my foot placements in everything that's not rumba (I think about leaving the feet relaxed for this, somewhat counterintuitively).

Also been working the sections in jive that have been a bit of a stuff show lately - simple spins are the bane of my dance quality to full speed music.

practice today was interesting. I modified my shoes yesterday, so they are now closer to 2 1/2". They felt really good and I was able to move freely and in balance, except for reverse wave. I couldn't seem to hit a toe properly - it looks more like heel, flat, flat, heel, heel, flat....... weird o_O

Practiced with amateur partner yesterday before my lessons. Double Reverse Spin went better, on the whole. There was lots of traffic on the floor, and it was taking me way too long to decide how to navigate around it and I struggled a bit to get back into proper alignments after each detour.

Short solo practice last night. Tried to incorporate the information from my lessons with regard to leading bronze foxtrot, quickstep and samba. Played around a bit more with some styling choices in cha cha showdance.

3-4 hour practice on Friday night for me. It was a mix of getting back in shape and making up for some lost time from my injury. He seems to have not lost a step, which was a great thing. He even worked out some kinks in our rumba and cha cha routines so they flow better. :)
