How many instructors have you had teach you?

I think that some people are stuck on the idea that you only should use one dance instructor etc., but that got me thinking about how many dance instructors that I have had even in my short time of dancing (and I am talking about private instruction only not anything else). I've had three private instructors so far in all of the studios that I have been to. At one time it was going to be four, but then that never happened. So, how many instructors have you all had teach you? This should be an interesting thread, because in a way this should let beginners know that it's ok if you want to switch instructors, or that you can use more than one instructor at the same time even (depending on where you go etc. read the contract). You don't have to stay with just one instructor. If it works for you though that's fine, but you can always change if you want to. Have fun! ;)

P.S. This is not meant to get personal about what each instructor was like just how many instructors you have is all that I'm asking. Thanks!

Hmmm, let's see... just two private instructors. No... 3 -- I worked on a Cha Cha showcase with a third instructor.

Took a small on-2 salsa series with someone else. And I take a large on-1 salsa group lesson on a regular basis -- I'll be adding some privates with that instructor.

But for ballroom -- 3 private instructors plus several more as far as group lessons.

I like working with different people. And I also like settling into one particularly close student-teacher connection. Whatever works!

For ballroom--2 main teachers, one of whom is also my AT teacher. Have had 2 private lessons with a third.

For AT--3 different teachers in BsAs when I started (one main, 2 other for just a few hours), 1 main teacher here, have taken a single private lesson from 2 other instructors.

Three regular, two group helpers, and then two different group teachers when we traveled, and then one for a one-night-stand polka lesson.

One (for 4+ years).

Plus a handful of lessons with 3 other instructors, either as a fill-in when pro is away or to work on styling with a female instructor.

Pro and I also take coaching together from a massively experienced coach every few months.

Let's also post how LONG you've been taking lessons. ikt ha sa different meaning when you've had 2 coaches for 5 months vs 2 coaches for 5 YEARS....

Sure! We can do that. I've had two coaches for 8 1/2 months and my latest coach for 1 1/2 month (1 full month includes Novemeber and half month includes October). One coach danced Country Western only, the other danced Swing only, and my latest coach dances Ballroom/Latin/Swing. :p

Good point, saludas.

Ballroom--Been dancing for 2 years. Have had 1 teacher for the entire 2 years. I've been taking ballroom lessons from my other teacher for about 1.5 months.

AT--Been dancing it about 1 year. In Bs.As.--1 teacher for 14 hours, 1 teacher for 4 hours, 1 teacher for 2 hours--all within the same week. Since then, 1 main teacher for 7 months. 2, 1-hour lessons with different visiting teachers.

I had input from bunch of people when I started.. right now primarily study with one couple and take lessons with the international teachers they bring.. most of it falls in a similar school of dancing.. when I used to take with more people, some things weren't really compatible..

Let's see. I've been doing salsa for almost 2 years now. Over that timespan, I've tried 7 different teachers. One or two I didn't care for for one reason or another (mainly I didn't feel they were good teachers, and in both instances, one thing I didn't like was that during partnerwork, they had you rotate partners so quickly that you barely had a chance to "practice" anything with the other person...). Other teachers I "grew out of", as I moved beyond their beginner/advanced beginner lessons. So I now continue rotating classes with three out of the seven I started with. There are still another handful of teachers/schools in the area that I have yet to try, and which are on my "someday" list.

I also have had a private with a person totally separate from the teachers I've already trained with.
