How many instructors have you had teach you?

I've lost count over the years, between regular teachers, extra teachers who I saw for short periods of time, group class teachers, regular coaches, and visiting coaches. I've done Pro/Am competitions with three different teachers, though.

Let's see...

With one instructor for American style for 4-1/2 months.

Then this past spring I started with a new instructor doing International, so I guess I've been with him for 5-6 months. So, not that long.

We started with a mix of Standard & Latin, now focusing on the Standard dances, and I'll add the Latin back in. But I want to work with his partner for a while before I start doing Latin figures with him again. Think it'd be helpful to be looking at a woman's hips rather than a man's...

In 5 years at FADs at least 10 different instructors, not counting a few that filled in for one of our assigned teachers. We had a man and Lady instructor, to give us the view from both sides. One we requested the change, the others left or transferred to other FADs studios. Other than the one, we were pleased with all of them. The best one was a young lady, who did not have the personality they were looking for unforetunately and she left after about 5 months.

Been taking lessons for 3 yrs, 7 months. One regular instructor, one for Latin and another for Argentine Tango. Do girl lessons for styling and anytime coaches visit, do lessons with them. Have to go to another studio for Standard as no one teaches it at my original studio.

In more than 2 years of actually taking privates:
Well, 3 instructors that Ive taken, say more than 4 lessons each with. I still work ocasionally with all of them for different things, it just depends where I am, where they are, and how much money I DONT have. (none of them are local)
How many people have I ever taken a private from? err, 10ish? Maybe more Im forgetting? Im still searching for the perfect combo of teachers for me... *Shrug*

Over the past 4 years, I've had 5 different instructors for private lessons. I still take with 1 of them on a regular basis, i.e., more than once a week and 2 of them on and off, i.e., when preparing for student showcases at another studio.

I find it interesting how each has very different teaching styles and I still learn from all of them.

Ok, let's see . . . I've been putting off answering this for awhile.

I'm in my 10th year dancing.

Did 1 year with first teacher, who then sent us to a studio because he couldn't take us much farther. There, did 1.5years or so with second teacher, changed partners and 2 years with third teacher. Partnerships changed again. Continued group classes with third teacher, started privates with fourth teacher. Stayed with fourth teacher for 4 years. It's now been a couple of years since I've taken lessons regularly due to lack of funds.

Since I've moved, my next lessons will be with teacher five, pending graduation and a full-time job. :)

This list does not count workshops, dance camps, or the 1-2 times/year coaching with a particular visiting pro that I've done.

(for the record, I've regressed quite a bit in the last few years, and now try to avoid saying that I've danced for as long as I have . . . grrr.)

Don't mean to hijack the thread (kind of pertains to it I guess), but what's the difference between instructor & coach? I've seen references all kinds of ways here on DF. Just want to make sure I'm referring to everyone the proper way.

Good question. I've wondered the same thing myself. I've always referred to the person I see on a regular basis for instruction, correction and encouragement as my teacher. I refer to the person that I see on a one-time or irregular basis for review of technique, styling, interpretation, whatever, as a coach. My teachers attend my sessions with my coaches.

Others seem on the forum seem to vary in usage.
