HOW do you do a two-beat basic underarm cha-cha turn? I've tried everything that I personally know of- which isn't much. I worked for two hours on it yesterday.

Right foot back, then up-side, cha-cha-cha,
Left foot forward, then back-side, cha-cha-cha,

... and then?

Me Stewpit.

basic under arm turn while doing forward and back basic.

Right back, left forward (for rock step), followed by right, left right for cha ch cha. Then left foot forward , then turn on right foot to face back to partner where you would do forward rock step.

basic under-arm turn while doing side-to-side

Right back, left forward (for rock step), followed by right, left right for cha ch cha. Then left foot side, turn on right over the two beats you normally would do rock step.

Does this help?

Assuming that the described steps are man's, man executes either Alemana turn (Clockwise Turn) or Spiral (Antri-clockwise turn) on man's R(2), L(3)

SO AM I. I've wanted to do this for TWENTY YEARS. I've danced with horses my whole life- dancing with humans is WEIRD.

We painstakingly dissected me tonight, going as slowly as possible, and we figured out what I was doing. I was rushing through the cha-cha-cha movement and right into the spin. I didn't complete the basic before doing the simple spin. I just got way ahead of myself "trying to scramble to keep up".... when I was already too far ahead

ALWAYS LOOK EYE, DANIEL-SAN, AAAALWAYS LOOK EYE. D'oh!

And I got so obsessed working on that, that I screwed up what usually was a really nice basic waltz with quarter turns. But then later we crashed the "old people country dance place" where my parents were, did an impromptu exhibition around the floor to riotous acclaim (remember these are like eighty-year-old shuffling zombies now- no offense, but really- you should see 'em..), and J didn't freeze up. It was a lot of fun. Now I need a wine and an ativan, and a long nap

This is SO good to hear. I wanted to dance for a long time before I started too. :D

What's an ativan? :)

Ativan is one of those "just forget everything and zone out for awhile" pills the doctors are hesitant to give out unless you're pretty much stone crazy like me  It's a means to an end or a method to madness, or something.

We worked our butts off (well, ok, we worked a portion of mine off, but a lot is still there) on that blasted cha-cha, and would you know in the end, it made me like it? It was actually kinda fun, even though I was about paralyzed from the knees down! Amazing.

J gets "stuck" in the chasses and underarm turns and stuff and can't get "back to basic"... I tell him "stop this crazy train" and he has no idea how, so we're working on it, but we actually almost kept time with the music and all.

Again though- waltz is pretty wrecked after spending 45 mins on cha-cha.

I dunno what we're doin'. Lexington is this weekend, so I think it's time for a vacation. I want Coldstone Creamery blackberry icecream and Joe Bologna's fried pickle peppers.

If I find a reason to Cha-Cha, though... I think I just might almost be ready though!
