IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

LOL i took my Aida's to a local cobbler to have some reinforcement-leather stitched in to the ankle straps where they were wearing out from the buckle. When i came back, my shoes looked like this:

I guess he felt it was reeeaaaally important to cover up the areas that the satin had worn away LOL! Bless his heart. The 'patches' came off a couple practices later.

It's a good thing they came off - I would have been tempted to paint faces on them :p

OK - an update: My street shoe size is US 9.5 medium. I just got my exchanged shoes today - Aida Nikolishina size 25, and they fit exactly the way I want them to. Can't wait to get on the floor with them!

let us know how they are!

I like them. The heel placement, for me, is great, so I fell well-balanced and stable. And the style that I got - the Nikolishinas - have adjustable straps across the toe area which is really, really useful to me. In fact, that's the reason I chose that style, so I'm very glad that they are working so well.

Looks like you wouldn't have that baby-toe-escapee problem with that model either? I've only ever tried the one style, although in this brand and size i'm in so far my toes have stayed in (not so much with some others...). Makes for dangerous social dancing situations LOL

After dancing in supadance standard shoes I finally made the switch to the Nimbus Ray Rose Standard shoe... They arrived today from VE and I love them already. Fit perfectly, arch fits my foot. Ugh just love. Brain fart just remember this is a latin shoe thread. Ugh it's been a loooooooong weekend.

Aida Update: I got my Basyuks. They were way too tight, at first, but stretched out nicely. And quickly. And now, they're a tiny, tiny bit loose. TDNWMH, because I have two competitions coming up, one next week, one in 3 weeks, and I want shoes that fit.

Also, heel protectors that came with the shoes added 1/4" height to heel. I had to get used to it. But if you order heel protectors, get the suede bottom ones. The clear, I wore through in about two weeks.

I go through heel covers so quick too.

The Ray Rose heel covers fit the flare Standard Aida heels, and there are supadance slim suede bottom ones that fit the slim standard heels.

Apparently this is the glue:

And other suggested tools are: vice grip, clamps, small scissors/knife, and a flat head screw driver.

I think it's really important to clamp it together after gluing and let it sit overnight (or some period of time at least).

When you glued the cut-off edge, did you fold the layers in somehow, or just leave them as is? I'm contemplating doing this to a pair of my shoes but I'm not sure if it would look weird/unfinished to have the cut edge visible. (although hopefully it wouldn't really be visible since the point is to cut off the excess that sticks out!)

I do this with my practice shoes because so far I make a huge mess with the glue all over my shoes hahahha. I figure once I totally get it and figure out the right shape, then i'll eventually not use heel protectors any more.

My first time I cut tabs sticking out of what was just the heel shape so they could fold up. We do a lot of "center balance" exercises, or feather-step/three-step drills which are just a total heel massacre situation. I was worried that so much heel pulling would peel off the suede bit if it didn't have a tab folded up. It worked great. But I did go a bit overkill HAHAHHA they looked ugly but i didn't care since it was a test with practice shoes. I've finally worn through them (they definitely lasted much longer than heel protectors!!). I just put on a second set with only one tab to see how it goes. Once i figure it out and am able to do a more refined-looking job, i'll graduate to doing it to my "good" shoes.

I'm not sure which layers you're referring to, but i'll try and post some pics tomorrow because what I just said probably didn't make sense either LOL.

Maybe someone else can jump in - there are others here that do this home-made version quite successfully :-)

The Ray Rose heel covers fit the flare Standard Aida heels, and there are supadance slim suede bottom ones that fit the slim standard heels.

Silly question for Miss Silly: which RR heel covers? The ""Ray Rose Flare with Suede Base," which I hope I can get at Worldtone?

Yes that is correct :-) the flare RR will fit the flare Aida Standard shoes (I haven't tried for latin so I don't know about the latin heels, but they work for standard).

Yeah, this is the other issue I have with Aida. They are just too soft for me. I bought a pair of Supadance and I LOVE the way the straps shift and keep my foot IN the shoe; my Karinas never felt like this. The Supadance have a slim, yet flared heel - it's much less chunky-looking than other flares, which I really like. Now, the problem I have the with Supadance is the heel cup. It's so high! I love that with the Aida cup it's very low and doesn't intrude on my Achilles' tendon, which the Supadance do.

I want an Aida heel placement and heel cup with a Supadance vamp and a tougher satin. Is this too much to ask!? :wacky:
