Improper Care of Dance Shoes

My answer would have to be the same as Larinda's. Also, folks, bear in mind that the studio owners would CRINGE if they knew you were bringing all that dirt onto their hardwood dancefloors, wearing the same shoes inside as outside. Some of the places I have been where people where their street shoes were dirty or even worse, gritty. This is not a pretty sight if you are one who lays on the floor to stretch.

I don't wear my dancing shoes outside, other than a quick trip to the ladies which is maybe 4 steps outside. There is one exception of a pair of shoes I have had since I started dancing as a kid. They are so heavily caked with wax and gunk that even trying to scuff them up on cement barely makes an impact. They are however, great spinning shoes!!

Sometimes going to the water fountain beside the dancefloor can be more hazardous than stepping outside!

I've worn my Latin shoes outside once (for like 10 feet of walking outside onto concrete to an ATM and back) and my feet were in a lot of pain afterward. I was in a pair of thinner dress socks and maybe it wasn't the shoes, but regardless, the balls of my feet were bugging me for the rest of the day. I bet going out in smooth shoes would be okay though.

I wore my Bloch sneakers for 3 days straight during my school's fundraising fair (I was in the technical team, which means you're running around 15h/day) because I had problems with my knees and they are shock-resistant. Bad thing was I ended up with my toenails going black because those shoes are made for dancing and thus are a much tigher fit than normal shoes. :? :? :? Not doing it again, I tell you.

I am probably showing my age, but how does anyone dance in flip flops? I see the younger girls doing it and I know I would probably fall on my face if I tried it.

Hmm. My teacher teaches in flip-flops in the summer! No problem.

TE- if your toenails are turning black, those shoes do not fit properly. Also, you should be giving leather shoes a day's rest or else they'll end up reeking to high heavens.

I can dance in flip-flops. I can dance barefoot.

When I wear socks I burn nice large holes in them doing spins. I only dance barefoot in my home, on the wood floors.(We don't wear shoes in the house in Japan so it's really clean, no grit, no dirt)

Their fit is very good. It was just that I was very tired, my feet probably got swollen and so the toes were crushed. :? But I haven't had a single problem with my shoes when I'm dancing socially or at class. It was too many hours running about, with not nearly enough sleep or rest, I think.
So next time, I won't wear my dance shoes when I'm not dancing.

I never wear my competitions shoes outside...which is why one of my biggest pet peeves is seeing people warming up on the competition floor in their wet, muddy sneakers right before a heat :x Heh, oh well.

Once I tried doing a spin in the kitchen wearing flip flops while waiting for supper to cook. My foot turned right off the shoe which didn't. Thought for sure I had twisted my ankle!
So actually dancing in them amazes me.

I do salsa, cha cha, merengue, bachata...often in flip flops. No problem. I do have a harder time with the smooth ballroom and other dances that I don't know too well, though.

I'll dance in yo' mama's army boots if I hafta.

LOL!!!

I wear my old dance shoes outside--y'know, the satin ones with holes in the sides and the coaching ones with perfectly smooth soles. New and pretty ones--no way. I'll ruin them soon enough without taking them off the dance floor, thank you very much.

I'll dance in anything...actually, I love dancing barefoot on grass in the early morning dew, or after it's rained, as long as it's past the point where you're going to end up muddy.

As for wearing my dance shoes outside, I will if I'm running out to the car quickly, assuming it's dry out, but that's about it.
