Latindancers and diet before a competition...

Just curious to see if this is quite common or not, to diet and lose weight before a competition for a normal build person?
Almost everyone in my dancestudio do a dancers-diet (they call it) before a competition, to tone up etc. They think about what they eat, do a lot of workout etc... (we are talking both men and ladies)

If its common to do so, how come its done? I mean i never really thought about losing weight for a competition, like i think its more worth spending time practising technique and the routines instead of being on a diet.... hmmm...

I pretty much maintain my competition weight at all times.

I may lose a bit more weight before a comp because of practicing more and making sure I eat well. But I don't try to....unless of course it's a particularly revealing dress I have to get in to. *grin*

Heh, yeah, i'm definitely always paying attention to my diet, otherwise i'd still look like picture on my driver's license. :)

oooh, let me reframe that, I maintain my competition weight at all times if fasc is not plying me with chocolate.... *grin*

Dansa, I have never done that...if I started being critical of my body at such a micro level that a diet right before a competition would make a difference, I think I'd drive myself crazy. Plus irregular dieting can do bad things to your health, and like you, I'd rather use my energy level to practice than reduce it by dieting.

it may be one of those days that you end up being a little patch of scorched earth where etp used to be then.... *grin*
now that is an amusing little visual....but we digress...I would be interested in hearing what most folks do but I suspect that most of us who are serious tned to be ever mindful of the consequences of bad dietary practices...though some of us are less blessed with regard to the consequences
