Long hair issues...

Hey DF!
I find that when I dance lately my hair gets stuck everywhere: on my back, in my armpit (blech!), on the guy, and worst of all, when the guy multiple spins me my hair gets wrapped around his hand and I am forced to stop or it will get ripped out! This is veeeeery frustrating. Ladies, (and men with long hair), how do I fix this?
Thanks!

lol this weekend I cut off the end of my twists because they slap guys in the face when they spin me (it wasn't on purpose promise :P ) and it hurts because of how the ends were done. much better now :)

but suspect you don't want to cut your hair...I still have to use 2 or more scrunchies to make sure it holds as my hairdo is pretty heavy and long.
Wrap it multiple times

It sounds like your hair is very long, to your waist perhaps? You don't say so I can only guess. I've never seen or heard of someone getting their hair wrapped around their partner's hand......?

Securely braid your hair and safety-pin the bottom part of the braid to your shirt in the shoulder area. Not the very bottom of the braid but somewhere about 5 inches from the bottom. Put your hair in a low ponytail and then braid the ponytail. This will make it very secure.

My hair is to the middle of my back and I have the problem of whipping my dance partner in the face with my ponytail. So instead, I'll often just pull the front back into a barrette so that the rest of it is weighed down by what's in the barrette and keeps the bottom of my hair from flying around.

I don't understand why women don't pull their hair back when they dance. It's so unattractive to have sweaty strings of hair in a person's face. It's also distracting to watch. That's why ballroom and latin dancers wear their hair securely pulled back when they compete.

Yesterday a girl that I was dancing with got her hair caught in one of my shirt buttons. I thanked her and told her that she's so nice to let me have a piece of her to take home with me:lol:  .

I have long blond hair, almost half way down my back, too. I also wonder if that doesn't cause too much trouble for men but everytime I asked if should put it up they told me they would prefer to have open, so I leave it like that  :)

My hair is long and heavy and it comes just below my shoulder blades. Because it's layered, a braid is completely ineffective, so I usually pull it back into a low ponytail, wrap it into a bun and slick it back.

It works well. :)

Hey all!
Thanks for the replies. The reason I like to wear my hair down is because I like that swishy feeling it makes when I spin or whip my head. It's down to the middle of my back. I like the barrette idea or any way to have it half up/half down, because you're right, sweaty hair in the face is annoying and probably not that attractive.

I have very long hair for a guy, and generally I either tie it up in a pony tail, or if its going to be a really long night plait it. Using latex hair ties, so I don't have a dangerous peice of metal at the tip of my hair spinning around. Asides from the feminine look of scrunchies, I find they are also generally heavier, which irritates me when dancing.

Although I have been known to wear them when I forget my own hair tie.

My hair goes down to my waist and it is very thick and heavy and also very straight which makes it difficult to make any kind if hair accessories stay put. Usually i pull all the hair in a low ponytail and then braid it. Afterwards I wrap it into a bun and fix it with lots of hairpins. Usually it survives a night of hard dancing.

I also have guys asking me to leave my hair down when dancing.

mine is getting longer too.. it dances along when i dance so its cool 8)

aww .. i'm gettin prettier

I get that request too...though my hair is thick and heavy, it only goes down to mid-back. On Sunday night, I had my hair pulled back into almost a bun and held back with an elastic. The elastic broke on my drive down to the club and, of course, it was the one time that I didn't have a spare one on me. All it took was that night for some of the guys I usually dance with to realize just why I keep my hair pulled back. :P

A bun seems to be the best solution for me, too. I go for the bu or any variation of a bun (doesn't have to be ballet-like, doesn't have to be too fancy).
