Long hair issues...

I don't mind being wacked in the face from long hair. It can be a problem if its extremely long and it puts a torniquet around your neck during multiple spins :shock:

At the NYC congress I did see a girl get her hair caught in some dudes wrist shirt button, didn't look easy to get out either. I carry my leatherman in my salsa bag now just to solve little problems like this.
 
ive also had this long hair dilema for a while now. it even gets caught in the inner elbow (?) area and in the watches.

well, the reason why i dont like to wear my hair in a bun is ... :oops: ...i dont look good in a bun. in fact, i look too homely and it makes me self conscious. ive tried the pony tail bit, but the guys get a worse lashing from me. :lol:

It's been so damn hot in Japan this summer that I've been wearing it in a tight bun with my hair all slicked back with super-hard gel and have added some cool snazzy hairpins and combs. I'm getting a lot of compliments form this style(I don't like the way I look in a bun, either!) and I've gotten used to it. Wouldn't wear it for dancing, though.
 
My hair is too thick to be kept in a bun, so a ponytail or braid is the solution.
And I don't mind hitting the guys with my hair... :twisted: ...if someone bothers me, then I can hit stronger.....

I agree with cocodrilo.. Thank god we have all the styling products like gel, mousse, etc..

I don't mind hair slapping me, but the worst, and it happens more than I care to think about, is when it hits me in the eye. I have to do a couple of cross bodys in a row with no spins to recover and regain my sight. I guess this is where dancing with eyes closed would be helpful. :D

I know :oops: It's a secret weapon. It's tough out there for us women, we need to be always ready, but don't worry I only use it when necessary. (I also have other weapons :twisted: )

I agree. I used to have short(ish) hair but the above phenomenon kept on happening. So when I got seriously into Salsa, I grew it long so that I could tie it up in a bun.

I never see salsa dancers wearing their hair in a bun, especially the latinas, with their long, beautiful dark hair. Why bundle up your "crowning glory" when yo can let it fly freely? Agreed, it does get sweaty(not around my face, though- at the back of my neck) but that's what towels were made for! 8)
 
You're right , cocodrilo... but I have really thick hair and it just gets so darn hot :!:

But there's nothing like seeing a sexy latin lady with a thick dark mane of glossy hair which she tosses and turns and uses as an integral part of the dance. 8)
