Nevada Star Ball 2008

I searched the room for a price tag for the slippers, and when I couldn't find any I felt safe in taking them -- everything else seemed to have a price tag on it, including the bed and linens (there was a card near the bed telling how you could order a bed for your own home). I think the slippers were just wrapped in plastic to prove that they had never been worn, which makes sense from a sanitary standpoint.

I was thinking about taking the music CD home with me, but it said something on it about costing $19.99 so I just left it.

I'll let you know if a slipper charge ends up on my bill :) It wasn't there when I checked out.

No, those goodies are standard for the hotel. The only difference between a smoking and a non-smoking room is that people are allowed to smoke in the smoking room. Fortunately my room wasn't too stinky because there weren't any other available rooms at the hotel.

Oh, and next year I'm definitely bringing my bathing suit because the pool area is very nice, lots of big loungy couches to hang out on.

Could you believe those couches and the beds by the pool? This place was great. Th last time we were in Vegas was for Holiday Classic and it was at the Luxor. The Luxor was sold out so we ended up at the adjoining hotel Excalibur. It was awfully smokey and kind of left a bad impression.

I think I prefer staying slightly off the strip rather than on the strip. More peaceful. Less smoke, even with a casino atmosphere.
 
oh holy moly, herekittykitty, so you've got a penthouse room for the same price as the original room you booked? What a deal!!! It's great to meet people from hometown!!!:)

We ate several of the snacks as well as had a bottle of wine and 2 bottles of water. When they gave our final bill, it wasn't there. Still wish I would have taken advantage of the slippers....the robe in the closet was so comfortable I was thinking of ordering one.
 
Interesting, hereKittyKitty. When I checked in on Friday night they were out of non-smoking rooms. The desk people tried to get the manager to "unlock" (meaning allow use of) some more suites so I could get a non-smoking room, but they were told no. I really wanted to get to bed so I said I'd try the room to see if it was okay. It was...I wonder if I had put up a fuss if I'd have gotten a suite? Not that I needed it -- my room was plenty big and plenty nice, and the location was really convenient.

Same price. I'm not sure if it helped that she was from our hometown or just coincidence. She said they were completely sold out so maybe that's all they had available for that night. Rather than risk bad mouthing their hotel for selling our reservation, they provided us with the best they had-not sure.

I love slipper too;) if I were there, I would probably take them as well;) hope your wine and 2 bottles of water NEVER appear on your charge card:)
 
When I checked out the bottle of vodka I opened and the Kit Kats I ate weren't on the bill. We'll see if this catches up with me...maybe they comped you and I our in-room goodies because of the mess up with our reservations? That would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath...before I left I wrote down the list price of everything I took so that if they hit me with the charges later I could verify that I wasn't being overcharged.

you deserve it! It is not right for them to sell your reservation. The whole purpose of reservation is to make sure you have a room when arrive; certainly they feel guilty of it (of course not good for their reputation if they send you away to other hotels) and thus provide you the best they could have at that moment!

The location of our room was in the East Wing. It took awhile to walk to the comp so it wasn't super convenient even though it was a nice room. I got the impression when we were checking in that they were really booked or else we would not have gotten such a deal.
 
Hotels overbook, just like airlines do, to compensate for inevitable no-shows. I've heard of multiple cases of people turning up at a hotel for which they hold a reservation and being told there are no rooms. If there really is NOTHING (like no suite or other special room) then the hotel puts the guest up elsewhere at the hotel's expense. It's super annoying but it does happen.

Ditto- I'm not holding my breath either. Though I'm hopeful it "slips under the rug" $7 for a bottle of water-give me a break!

Thanks-I know we arrived late, maybe they weren't aware of when we would be arriving but, we never canceled our reservation. . So its in their best interest to make up for it.

It is annoying. I thought about calling the hotel before we left Atlanta to make sure that we had a room. I just trusted that the comp organizer would take care of things. This time it worked out great but I learned my lesson. Imagine if we would have flown to Vegas from Atlanta, arriving at 1:45 am and no room:(
