NJ Dancesport Summer Sizzler?

Anybody know what the schedule looks like beyond what's given in the competition brochure?

They are going to work on the schedule tomorrow. Not sure when it'll be done (probably tomorrow night / Thursday). I'll let you know once I hear.

When I'm working for a comp, I always check people's names against the USA Dance membership database and note their correct number that way. It's easier than bugging people to show me their cards. So, if I received a registration like Katarzyna's, it would take me about 3 seconds to find Alex's number and then I'd be done with it. Verifying USA Dance numbers is probably the easiest part of accepting a couple's registration for a comp.

Why do it by hand if you can automate it :) Also, all the other rules could be enforced by the system. Things such as age / level combinations (provided that the birthdays on file are correct, of course) can be verified. Automating all of the PT2 can only dance J1 or J2 but not Y, etc is the way to go. I can't imagine having to do that by hand

Well, when I'm doing a tiny comp (like our local club-level comps) I do it by hand, but for Nationals it is automated.

My point was that if the automated system allows something like what Katarzyna did, then it's easy enough for the registrar to look up and fix in a couple of seconds if they need to.

As far as verifying entries goes, again, it's done automatically by the system being used for Nationals, but I'm so used to looking at entries that I can do myself if I have to in about 3 seconds by looking at someone's entry. So, for a tiny comp, I have no problem doing it by hand. Really, that's another of the easy steps for a Registrar.

The tough stuff is things like getting people to pay on time, and getting people to show citizenship/travel documentation for a comp like Nationals if needed. The tough stuff is anything that at some point needs the competitor to do something or send me something. That's what I spend most of my time doing -- chasing after people for things like remembering to renew their USA Dance membership, or to submit their payment, or that sort of thing. It's amazing to me how many people will give me their email address as a contact but only read their mail once a week. I can't go an hour without checking my email, but I guess I'm just a freak.

Thanks, that'll help a lot with planning for the weekend. (btw Ily... decided to just make the drive up to NJ in one long drive).

You are so right! I can't imagine having to chase down people at a comp size of Nationals. It's hard enough with smaller comps (thankfully, I'm not the one doing most of the chasing). And as for email, I know exactly what you mean - I keep telling myself that it's okay not to check email every 3 minutes, but when someone doesn't check their email for a week... I just don't get it :)

Good luck Angelo! Drive carefully... and I can't really take much credit short of technology assistance. Wendi Davies does all the hard work.

Ily, is prechamp standard(and champ) going to finish before prechamp latin? I'm not clear how the rounds will interleave with each other.

To tell you the truth, I have no idea. I'll send Wendi an email and let you know. I haven't even had a chance to look at the schedule... just posted what I received via email. She said that the webmaster will post something on www.njdancesportclassic.com later tonight, but I'm guessing it will be the same thing.

Here's reply from Wendi Davies:

On the schedule there is a break into two parts on Saturday night... the first group going from 6-9; the second from 9-12:30. All events started in 6-9 part finish in the 6-9 part and the same is true for the 9-12:30 part. I have given enough time for all costume changes...to the best of my knowledge... if you tell me the couple I can double check.

Specifically... Pre-Champ standard will finish before Champ Std or Pre-champ latin begin. Champ standard first round is before pre-champ latin's semi-final (it's first round). The final of the Champ standard is the last event...

Hope to meet you there, tunape.

If you look at the schedule you can see that they are allocating ~8 minutes for each pre-champ round/heat. Therefore, I would venture to guess that the semi-final of pre-champ standard should be danced around 6:40 and the final should then be danced around 7:16.

Each champ round/heat is being allocated 10 minutes. That means that the quarter of champ standard should be danced around 9:49, the semi around 11:23 and the final around 12:20.

So...there are 3-4 couples doing youth and adult standard. If adult has four rounds and youth has two rounds, some of these kids could be pretty busy right?
