pre-competition disorder

The jewelry looks great with the dress. So while my dress isn't sparkly, the jewelry will be. I've looked at videos from events held by the US National Tango Association, and my attire that I'm wearing for the comp would fit right in. I had another one of those feel bad moments again over the weekend when someone asked me about the dress, and I saw her face fall when I described it, like, oh poor you not having a real competition dress. It's the context, and it's right for what I'm dancing.

I tried the spray hair color this morning. It's very subtle, but it does the job. And figured out the liquid metal lip color I purchased awhile back is a match for the dress. So something works.

@Purr sounds like it's all coming together!

I got my new dress for my fitting today - way later than i expected, but as I've worked out a deal with the dress company, i can't really complain. I doubt it will be ready for OSB, but maybe! I have never gotten a dress from a US based designed, and was glad that my friend told me not to expect much from the fitting - it was just barely put together! It's all pinned up and ready to send back...exciting. My pro is at a competition all week, so pre-comp disorder is only barely taking hold. lots of solo practice for me!

Purr,
Your outfit is probably fabulous. It's fun and wonderful to have the most outlandish $3000 Cinderella dress. It's fun to oohhh and aahh over everyone's dresses. In the end, it's how well you dance. Oddly, if your dress cut and fit is elegant, you might stand out!

Having said that, I've cleared out my sewing room and gotten back to sewing. I hadn't sewn in 5 years.... So I need to do some simple things first. I also need to practice with some more elegant, light weight and stretch fabrics because I tended to make things like slacks, skirts and so on.

On the hair: When I used to have someone else color my hair, the grey-ish line bugged me after 4 weeks, and really showed after 8. I used that spray. It works great. The main negative I had with spray is it made the roots stiff. That's hardly a problem with the nearly frozen ballroom dance styles anyway.

Now I color my own and do the roots every 4 weeks. No... not as professional as if done by a professional. But not too bad and I don't hate it for 4 weeks out of 8! But your reminding me of the spray makes me tempted to find something with glitter in it for my next comp. :)

The L'Oréal display at Target had a surprising number of options. There were the expected blonde and brown shades. Then there were fun colors like pink, purple and jade. And then there were metallic colors like silver and rose gold. So there's something for everyone.

I've used the gold glitter hair spray before. It doesn't add that much to my hair, either close up or from a distance. Plus, the glitter ends up getting all over my face, dress, and inevitably some will find it's way onto pro. So I think I'm passing on the glitter hairspray, and glitter makeup, too.

hey y'all - do heatlists for Ohio Star Ball get posted ahead of time on the DanceComp app or online? I saw from previous posts they hadn't been posted, but i wasn't sure if that was still the case. I want to head off my pre-comp disorder of checking the site constantly this week. :p

Pro and I had discussed what competitions I should do next year a little bit and I thought about it more over the weekend. He had his "list of competitions to consider for 2019" ready for his students today (impressively early!) and before I left the studio I had made my choices. I usually do four competitions a year, and I wanted them to be a mix of "comfortable" and "scary", preferably alternating. OSB is in the "scary" category, and I chose two of the FADS regionals for "comfortable". Those three are nicely spread out, with OSB at the end. I gave them three choices for the 4th competition and said whatever worked out well in terms of other students going. None are perfect choices either because of timing, location, and/or potential expense, but I couldn't talk him into adding the one I wanted for the 4th. :p To be fair, he had 17 competitions listed ranging from regional FADS competitions to Blackpool, so he was giving us plenty of choices.

He also gave us a list of "20 things you should master to become a champion". Most is what you would expect, such as"posture", but there were some thought provoking ones as well: "Identity--who do you want to portray yourself as", and "Atmosphere--what should the onlooker feel".

Oh, I like the Identity one. My pro has given me that as direction too! I've got my persona that I want to portray, and I'm still working on it coming through.

I know they're not posted, and I've checked anyway a couple of times.

Very early Wednesday for me, sometime between 7 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. It's a good thing I'm up early regularly for work - I'm usually at work by between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. But - I can't imagine trying to look glamorous to dance that early in the morning.

Guess this is getting real, folks. Just had a what-in-the-double hockey sticks-did-I-get-myself-into moment. And why did I think I was good enough in AT to enter the biggest dance sport competition in the US, having not competed for over 3 plus years??!! Catch a breath, here.

there's a very nice hair mascara product called Grey Disappear - also supposed to be less toxic.
