pre-competition disorder

Thank you @RiseNFall , I definitely appreciate the perspective. I know this isn't the end of the world and that yes, some things will fall by the wayside. I think I have such a carefully controlled life in some respects (like this one... or so I thought...) that it's harder to remove the emotion from it. I wrote down my plan B (steps in chronological order), which should make me feel better... lol. And thanks everyone for suggestions.

OK so they just called back.. there's a laundry list of things that broke (water pump, coolant leaking, thermostat, serpentine belt). ~$1000. It sucks but I'm glad it's been diagnosed and a repair is in the works, and that it was caught before a long drive. My main concern now is that they may not have it finished today so I may still end up renting a car. I'll know later this afternoon. But at least there's a lot less uncertainty associated with the situation now.

Hope you made it @IndyLady !

Thank you, I'm finally catching up now that I'm back. :)

* Rented a car - they were not able to complete repairs on mine on Wed. Apparently I was lucky that I was renting a car for a "week" (4 days) - I was informed that if I had requested it for 1-2 days, the system would have shown no availability. I'm sure there's a rationale for such business models but it is a bit disturbing.

* Remember that extra night I reserved at the hotel (Wed)? Turns out I got the date wrong and didn't notice my error until I tried to check in. I had reserved for 11/21, not 11/14. In another stroke of luck, the manager was able to re-book me for that night even though they had been oversold for days (well before I made the erroneous reservation) since they had had cancellations. On my to-do list, I will be writing the most glowing review in history for this manager.

* Thursday was much more relaxing - I was able to get an appointment with Barbara in the morning, she was fantastic, so thank you for those reminders/recommendation. Also found a nail salon about a 10-minute walk away and there were no customers (hence no wait) when I walked in. Walked around the vendors and tried on about 100 dresses in the afternoon (felt like it, anyway).

I'm probably going to regret this post since I haven't had a lot of time to cool off, so I'll keep it brief.

You had a budget. "I need money for [comp] tomorrow. Will tell you amount later." I followed up by text today when I still hadn't received it. The amount is $500 over budget.

Now, to head off all the obvious advice about refusing, talking it out, etc... I had a feeling this was going to happen, and I had a plan (maybe more than one, lol). It just makes certain decisions going forward more clear (clearer?). But right now I'm still annoyed. Will see how it plays out at today's lesson. My goal is restraint.

oh that's super frustrating!!! GRRRRRRR

I am competing in Gold American Rhythm for the first time in early December. It's my first time competing at the gold level in any style. I suddenly feel like all technique disappeared from my brain and I'll never be ready in time.

good luck! yo - positive thought replacement to help with the anxious feelings. I thought it was a bit silly, but it's worked so well for me. 10 minute mental toughness!!

Last lesson yesterday before comp (OSB), driving out tomorrow and dancing Friday.

I'm trying (kind of struggling) to focus on the positive and "just dance", rather than hand-wringing about all the competitors who who have more time, money, discipline, talent, focus, status, "belonging" than I do. I generally dance better when I'm in "don't care" mode (which usually follows some sort of mishap, so it's like I have nothing to lose and then I relax), but since I'm only doing one style, I don't have the luxury this time of the "messed up the first day" or settling in. Fingers crossed I can get out of my own head.
