I'm afraid I haven't driven to the West Suburbs from Indiana! I do always take the toll roads when I drive east.

I haven't looked for the heat list. I'm Bronze and the general schedule has me in the morning. So I know "early". My pros wife is doing my hair. So I'm just leaving all that scheduling of the various student to her! :)

My dresses are clean. I have fishnets and back up fish nets. I'm getting my hair cut at noontoday. I do need to schedule nails and spray tan.

I feel pretty well under control.

I sort of think I know when my hair/makeup appointments are because the vendor apparently uses the same scheduling software as my studio and some other businesses I have patronized in the past, so those appointments inadvertently showed up in my account for that software as upcoming reservations (mixed in with my lessons).

On that note... so I will be driving to Chicago. Any advice from those who live in the area on navigating the toll roads? It's been so long since I've driven up there that I forgot they changed the system and now they just scan you as you pass through. It's too late to order an I-Pass transponder, so do I just attempt to keep track of the mile marker and day/time? (because multi-tasking while driving on those highways is a fantastic idea). Or any alternative routes you know of to Lombard?

I think that's the same throughout the Northeast - certainly it is in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I have to say it's much more convenient to embrace Big Brother and use a transponder, though, at least until the government starts using the tracking capabilities more aggressively.
 
8 year old's next competition looks like it will be DBDC, which for him will be August 1.

Now trying to figure out appropriate entries. The entry form has 11 levels of single dance events for each age category, 8 of which are subsets of bronze/silver/gold. There is then a note that competitors may dance 2 consecutive proficiency levels. Then there are multidance events, which come in six types five of which look sort of like a different set of proficiency categories, PreNovice, Novice, PreChamp, Closed, and Open.

What's unclear is (a) whether the multidance events are really proficiency related - is "Closed" really a proficiency level higher than PreChamp? - and if they are, (b) how do they fit in with the single dance levels and the "2 consecutive proficiency levels" limitation? For example, could 8 year old, who has never competed before, enter five different single dances at the "Newcomer" level, and also the five dance event at the "Closed" level? Or does the "2 consecutive proficiency levels" limitation prevent this? It's not like there are many under 10s who have already competed enough to progress through 9 syllabus proficiency levels.

Yeah, E-Z Pass manages the tolls for a lot of the country -- I've used it in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, as well as here in the Northeast. Was annoyed that I-44 from the Missouri border to Tulsa didn't accept it; I had to pay cash. But that was 5 years ago; things may have changed since the last time I drove across the country.

In Massachusetts and New Hampshire, you pay extra for pay by plate billing, but I think it's characterized as a fee rather than a fine.

I'm actually more bothered by the surveillance state aspects of pay by plate than of the transponder.

But Warren, if you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide.

(snark off) I hate this part, too. They need to have better practices for use of that data and storage of it, if they're going to monitor people's travel without giving an option to bypass it. You really ought to have the option to just buy a transponder and refill with cash, too.

CA is going the same pay-by-plate route with our crossings. It is practical, at least, since the toll booths slow down traffic so much.
 
Heat lists are out for Crystal Ball. I can find my heats. I can find heats of anyone whose name I know. I know the names of many local pros. I can look at those and find some of my competitors. :) But obviously not those of all the pros who might come.

Is there an efficient way to find out who else is in my heats?
