I agree the store was trying to protect others. I think they must have run into other people who thought gloves were protective of themselves, though, and they just came up with this protocol as it was as good as putting sanitizer on peoples' hands, rather than argue.

In deference to the protocol I kept the gloves on for my visit instead of taking them off. Fortunately I wasn't doing anything that gloves would be too clumsy for.
 
No asthma.
My mask was a cloth mask that sometimes get sucked in when you breathe in. I need to find more duck billed shape one somewhere!

I think when you guys go back to your lesson, you'll know what I'm talking about! I'm guessing some people will do better then me, and some will prob have the same difficulty.

We did a whole smooth round, with V Waltz.

They are not my favorite thing to wear, I feel horribly back weighted and it tends to the put a fair amount of strain in my arch and achilles and calf. Perhaps I will look into a small heel, closed toe, leather, ballroom shoe option. But I just wanted a cheap version for the students so they didn't spend a ton of money on a shoe that might get ruined.

Obviously we won't be working ankle and foot actions on concrete wearing flat shoes but I think we can work plenty of other details.

Thanks Larinda! I've wondered what to wear good outdoor dancing, but never found something I was comfortable pulling the trigger on.

I watched a news clip yesterday about a local farmer's market. They were requiring customers to wear masks, and spraying customer's hands with sanitizer upon entry. I might be inclined to say, no thank you, I've bought my own sanitizer which I'll use now, thank you. I prefer to use my own stuff.
 
My coach is planning a partial reopening starting next week. Here's her strategy:
  • All group classes remain virtual
  • One couple in the studio at a time
  • Couples can mutually agree on double-hand hold or full dance hold...
    • ...but coach will always be 6 feet distant
  • Mandatory masks on everyone
  • Handwashing or hand sanitizer before and after every lesson
  • 45 minute lessons every 60 minutes. The in-between time will be used for disinfecting surfaces
  • (for kids) Parents must stay outside for drop-off and pickup
  • Outside doors and windows will always be open

There's an opportunity to dance outside in the near future. The location is covered with some protection from the elements, rain or sunshine, but it's basic paving. We've danced outside previously - once on smooth stone tiles in an old spa, which were great, and once in the street on paving...

Seems like a good compromise. Will such restrictions ever be relaxed? Or is this as good as it gets?

Don't know. I didn't ask at the time. Looking at the guidelines myself, I don't see anything, either. Looks like she's jumping the gun based on an incredibly optimistic read of the Fitness Studios line: "Evaluating earlier opening of personal training and outdoor classes." Or counting the studio as a "salon" because all of the hairstyling that gets done there (she teaches competition prep classes, and grooming workshops are part of it).

I'll ask and make sure she has a legal justification.

Of course it will be relaxed. My teacher already relaxed some policies.
This is going to be slow and gradual recovery.

Dancing has been banned before in the past. A waltz? GASP! Scandalous!

I think for most studios in this country, the masks aren't going to go past 1 month after a studio opens.

Maybe private lessons could sneak in under "personal training".

I'd be interested since I'd like to see other ballroom studios here open!
