Salsa: The Hall of Fame (Dancers)

If you were to create a Hall of Fame, which dancer, from any style/branch of salsa/mambo :lol: would you choose and why? (You: "Just because" :wink: )

In no particular order:
Edie The Salsa Freak & Al Liquid Silver Espinoza
Josie Neglia
Susana Montero
Leon Rose
Seaon Stylist
Orville Small
Super Mario
Robert Charlamagne
Luis Vazquez
Joby Vazquez
Francisco Vazquez
Johnny Vazquez
.... and many more...

How is Frankie Martinez NOT near the top of that list??? :? Well, since Pacion wants us to state "why," then I'd say because of his extremely unique interpretation of the music, coupled with great technical proficiency. I also think he's a visionary as a choreographer. He's been a great inspiration WORLDWIDE.

Eddie Torres has to be on the list, too -- and I assume I don't have to say "why" with him. :roll:

Olivia Dasso deserves recognition too, for adding a different twist to the types of styling that women can use in their dancing.

I think that Frankie Martinez's original partner -- Aisha Koswara -- is an awesome dancer, too, even though I don't know how well she is recognized around the United States or around the world. She's a very fluid dancer and deserves credit for being able to keep up with Frankie...kind of like the Ginger Rogers to his Fred Astaire....

Rogelio Moreno dances with a lot of class, style, and great footwork.

Shaka Brown is right on the edge of edge of greatness, too -- and some people would say he's already there. Very smooth style and innovative choreography.

There are two names that come to mind which should head a list...

In the palladium era: Cuban Pete...

was it during the cheetah era: Hmmm, I forget, but George Vascones...

They are old school dancers, but as time travels they are forgotten...

This is in no particular order. * beside those who i have danced with and have had a profound impact on my dancing.

Edie The Salsa Freak* and Al Liquid Silver Espinoza *
Orville Small* and his ex partner Anna Jovanisen (sp??)
Joby Vazquez
Frankie Martinez*
Yolande Chandler and Terry Lewis*
Laura and Isaac Altman
Farid from France

I know ive forgotten a million people

Besides the ones already mentioned:

- Juan de Matos;
- Nancy Ortiz;
- Jhesus Aponte;
- Jason Molina;
- Fernando Sosa from 'Tropical Gem' dance Company;
- Robert Charlemagne;
- Marchant Birch;
- Marta Gonzalez (spanish dancer from Madrid that danced with Johnny Vazquez/Imperio Azteca);

and many more...

Definitely near the top of my list -- not that I'm biased or anything :roll: :lol: :lol:
Just to prove I'm not biased :lol:, I'd list Alyra Lennox along with Fernando Sosa. They look fantasitic dancing together.

I watched him perform with Candice Leong a couple of nights ago and couldn't take my eyes off Candice (so much so I can't recall what Marchant was like :oops: :lol:) -- there's something about the way she moves. Apparently it was their last performance together as she's relocating. Interesting to see what new partnerships will emerge as a result...

:notworth: to all of the abovementioned.....eventhough I've only met/danced with a few off the list.

Aside from these 'household' names (due to release of visual materials or involvements in congresses etc.), lest we forget all the nameless local legends who bring salsa close to home.....!

......and hats off to those who dance at clubs night after night spreading their passion & inspire others :notworth: ...........

Yes, Candice is relocating to Zurich. Marchant is lovely. Very smooth as a dancer and a nice guy too! Hopefully you will be able to give him more attention next time you see him perform :wink:
