Sprucing up my Standard gown - sewing questions!

The sewing bug has struck again...

I'm looking to update my latin dress for a slightly more flattering v-shaped/elongating skirt. This will just be an interim measure until I have the time to make a new dress (two comps in the next month...)

Problem is...I'm pretty sure I'm out of the pink fabric that I used to make this one.

Can you hive-brainstorm colours that would match well while maintaining the contrast effect of the black belt (all accessories are black as well...). A black skirt is my fallback option, but I'd rather keep the bright colours going on.

Will the top be the same colour as the one in the photo? If you think about what is the complementary colour (most opposed) to orange, then purple hits the spot... if you want less contrast, more away from the blue end of the colour wheel, more toward the reds. Have a look at images of cymbidium orchids for colour inspiration, like this Australian one:

Red could work! That would match my standard dress so I could keep the same lipstick. And I might even have some red Lycra hanging around.
 
A question for the dressmakers...I have some sew-in bra cups. They're the swimwear style "U" shaped ones...and they're honestly a bit weird...give me a very unnatural shape, etc.

I've seen some dresses that other women wear that seem to have really nice moulded cups that give a nice silhouette, and hold their shape well once they're sewn into the dress (an issue I had with sacrificing a pre-built bra). Does anyone know what kind they are?

when I sacrifice a pre built bra, I sew the entire front of the bra into the dress, not just the cups, thereby maintaining its structural integrity.

1) put on the bra and adjust

2) put on the dress and adjust

3) safety pin bra into dress and check carefully

4) sew bra in - usually at the back opening of the costume and at the shoulders

5) remove safety pins, try and and verify positioning.

6) cut off the extra parts of the bra and hem / finish raw edges

I usually have some kind of angled or criss cross strap as part of the costume design. I make sure at least one of these connects in the area where the bra back band meets the back opening.

yes, agree these are the best in my experience also, they come in flesh, black, and tan, the ones "with uplift" (charming brits!) - i usually create an elastic structure suitable for the dress, a strap holding them together, and then elastic sewn to the edge of the cups extending to a seam, or over the shoulder, whatever seems to work best. or they can just be placed and sewn in, especially if the lycra of the body suit is elastic enough to offer support.

ok, another sewing topic...i have some time off this week and am getting back to the standard dress spruce up i've been dreaming of! regarding crin - just curious....when crin comes with a big soft tread running down one edge, do you take it out before sewing? or just sew the thread in? i've been sewing it in, but don't want to this time...should i anticipate any issues with removing it?
