Studios in NYC

Hello,

I'm new to the forums. Latin is my passion, and I want to devote myself to it. I currently dance Novice, but there are no coaches within 2 hours of where I now live (I've been commuting for private lessons). I heard that NYC had the top studios, where I could not only take private lessons from some of the best, but even group lessons at my own level, since there are enough of us out there on the East Coast.

I've looked into the USISTD website, and found a few teachers in NY, but I can't really tell if they're any good from the website, and I'm still sure I'm missing 95% of the Latin teachers in the city.

Can anyone help me with a way to find a bunch of top studios in NYC, so I can have enough to make a safe and informed choice?

I'm not from NYC, but I've heard that Ballroom on Fifth is famous and it's always recommended. I had a lesson there a few years back and was very happy with the teacher.

For Latin there are lots of coaches out of Manhattan Ballroom, The Ball NY, and Basic Ballroom right now. There are sooo many studios (those are just the three I go to the most). And if you are looking for outside of Manhattan there are other amazing options in Brooklyn, etc.

Wow thanks guys. These are all some awesome suggestions. Obviously, since I haven't moved there yet, I don't really care where in NY it is, because I'll just move close by. I'll certainly check these places out.

what's the best ballroom or maybe top 5 in new york city?
I'm interested in particularly learning swing and tango.

Depends very much if you are interested in primarily taking group lessons or private lessons. For the biggest selection of group classes, I'd probably go with DanceSport or Stepping Out.

Also how into the particular dances you want to learn are is also important, if you're looking to get into the Swing scene or Argentine scene for example might make a difference. If you are looking for a studio with a large selection of classes for variety it might be a different answer (and the two above should suffice for that).

Thanks! Yeah, as I said, I'm interested in International Latin, not swing or argentine tango.

Yeah my response for Latin is still this:

I was responding to manny's post on the Swing & Tango :)

I found the Brooklyn Dancesport Club, thanks to a post by Meagan. This has really been getting me on track to find all the good ones. Thanks you guys!

BDSC is fantastic, even from what little interaction I've had with the folks there (doing a few rounds sessions with an old partner). Great floor, great teachers. My only quibble is how far into Brooklyn it is, but it's a small price to pay for such great folks.

Glad you're finding what you need!! There are really sooo many studios in the NY area you can really pick based on a number of factors. For just practice: proximity, floor size, crowded-ness, friendliness, etc. and then for lessons based on the teachers (even though many teachers travel to multiple studios, sometimes multiple boroughs) :)
