Swing in Eastern Pennsylvania - Where?

IF you decide to come into NYC on the 30th.....your only swing option is WCS. Since I believe you do more ECS, the weekly Lindy dance would be more to your liking, but that dance is on Thursdays. NYC is limited in its dancing due to laws regulating licensing on dancing, as a result we don't have many places we are able to dance. There are a few Monday night locations with swing as well, they tend to be less well attended and probably offer more variety between ECS and Lindy.

Even though i just read the answer you gave Pyg i think it's weird, but there are a lot of weird laws in the usa in my opinion, but that's another thread too.

I don't care what kind of swing i can dance actually, maybe except balboa, but that's just because i have no clue how to dance it.
The more trivial thing which makes it tough to come to NYC is that i just phoned my brother and he told me that he doesn't have to get up at 6am as i thought, but at 5am. and 2 hours of driving...

I haven't danced a lot of ecs the last 2 months since I'm back, but i don't miss it a lot. I somehow get more moves in lindy which is fun too. (not better)
The others coming with me are probably better of with ecs. never danced before swing. and it's just way easier to learn, (to lead especially)

As for the difference between WCS/Lindy and the difference with ECS/jitterbug....there are a lot of schools of thought and explinations, would definitly be better in another thread and there are already some that touch on it. While the dances have many similarities, there are many differences as well. There also tends to be a difference in atmosphere at WCS vs Lindy events. I am not the person to articulate why/how, Dnice is your best bet on getting answers for that on DF.

The Wed. night WCS crowd in NYC tends to be older, the dancing is smooth and the music is a lot of blues and pop. The Lindy night on Thursdays is more traditional jazz, younger crowd and a little more energetic crowd.

i saw some differences on wikipedia now. interesting, but it seems, if i know one, i should know the other one two. (maybe it's not completely correct dancing than, but works out somehow)

it would've been fun though to meet someone from the forum..
For me it's time for bed now (germany) - I'm gonna check in tomorrow again.

LOL. Pennsylvania has some weird blue laws, too. Throwbacks to the Prohibition and way before that. PA was settled by some very strict religious groups centuries ago, and many of the laws are only beginning to disappear. Others, I think, may stick around forever. Don't ask.

At any rate, just wanted to say that, if you decide to take the bus into NYC, the Bethlehem, PA terminal will probably be closest to you. The terminal in Allentown is in the middle of downtown and it's kind of a pain to get to. IIRC, the express bus picks up passengers in Allentown then Bethlehem before heading for the city.

Have fun! 8)

Okay. Here's the Elk's Club info:

North Penn Elks Club - Wednesdays, in Colmar, PA (off Rte. 309 on Trewigstown Road), DJ Swing Dance (mostly WCS but also jitterbug and Lindy). Lesson from 7:30 to 8:30 PM, dancing till 11:00.

Not sure where Colmar is... 309 runs from Philly to way North of Allentown, IIRC. Mapquest. Be right back. 8)

Hi
I'm searching for a swing event on the evening of the 30th March in the Area of Nazareth, Allentown, Easten, Pennsylvania.
Does anyone know about some event on that evening?
Would be very cool!
luh
p.s. the 30th is my birthday and I'm over there at that time - would be fun to go dance...
have fun luh, sorry but the best places too go are closer to philadelphia and south jersey, except colmar :) ,but if anything allentown on tue night might be ok for you.i hope u can get someone to drive u to philly to see the city, its not ny but its pretty cool.

Yup. I saw some dance or the other down by South Street way, I think. Not the right timeframe, I don't think. It's a pity, because that would be fun, even if the dance is lame. South Street is always ... educational.

i hope I'm going to have fun. :) And I'm pretty sure I will.
tue nights are not as practical. (on the first one, we're going to celebrate my grandmas bday, and on the second one I'm flying back to germany)
Just curious, if you're living there - are you going to come to that dance? would be fun ;)

Sounds like Wednesday in Colmar is probably your best bet. If you can get somebody to drive, it's pretty easy to not get lost. Down 33 (I think? -- I'll check) to 78 West, to 309 south. Straight shot to Colmar. Of course, you can get detailed directions from mapquest.

Is Friday or Saturday night a possibility? I could've sworn I saw a Friday night dance or two mentioned, somewhere.

@dancin/dj
as it looks now - I'm going to the colmar penn club, to go swing dancing.

@pyg
this friday and saturday are impossible. (I'm flying at saturday)
next friday or saturday might even be possible. if i find again someone who gives me a ride. (on wednesday my brother is still there - on thursday he is going for a tour), so I'm not sure about the driver issue. (i doubt that my parents are going to give me a ride.
But maybe i can convince them - why? would you be there? is there a band going to play?

I wish I could be there, luh. I'd love to meet you. The reason I seem to know what's up is that I spent most of my life in the area you'll be visiting.

But now, I live 2000 miles away. :( So maybe we can meet when I make it to Germany? :D

that sounds like a big trip for one dance :D
"If you'd ride with me we would be there in under one hour - 2000 miles 2000mph " ;)

If you make it to Germany tell me - seriously - it'd show you some german swing scene! Every time! I'm high school student - plenty of time ;)
(But don't go to berlin - that is on the other end of our country - even if it's way smaller than some other country...)

Pennsylvania people :) while i was dancing in school there didn't seem to be anything around as far as swing, ballroom, and latin goes. i'm so trilled to run into PA people...granted i'm not there anymore...i was from Erie and moved to Fairbanks AK
