leftfeetnyc said:IF you decide to come into NYC on the 30th.....your only swing option is WCS. Since I believe you do more ECS, the weekly Lindy dance would be more to your liking, but that dance is on Thursdays. NYC is limited in its dancing due to laws regulating licensing on dancing, as a result we don't have many places we are able to dance. There are a few Monday night locations with swing as well, they tend to be less well attended and probably offer more variety between ECS and Lindy.
Even though i just read the answer you gave Pyg i think it's weird, but there are a lot of weird laws in the usa in my opinion, but that's another thread too.
I don't care what kind of swing i can dance actually, maybe except balboa, but that's just because i have no clue how to dance it.
The more trivial thing which makes it tough to come to NYC is that i just phoned my brother and he told me that he doesn't have to get up at 6am as i thought, but at 5am. and 2 hours of driving...
I haven't danced a lot of ecs the last 2 months since I'm back, but i don't miss it a lot. I somehow get more moves in lindy which is fun too. (not better)
The others coming with me are probably better of with ecs. never danced before swing. and it's just way easier to learn, (to lead especially)
leftfeetnyc said:As for the difference between WCS/Lindy and the difference with ECS/jitterbug....there are a lot of schools of thought and explinations, would definitly be better in another thread and there are already some that touch on it. While the dances have many similarities, there are many differences as well. There also tends to be a difference in atmosphere at WCS vs Lindy events. I am not the person to articulate why/how, Dnice is your best bet on getting answers for that on DF.
The Wed. night WCS crowd in NYC tends to be older, the dancing is smooth and the music is a lot of blues and pop. The Lindy night on Thursdays is more traditional jazz, younger crowd and a little more energetic crowd.
i saw some differences on wikipedia now. interesting, but it seems, if i know one, i should know the other one two. (maybe it's not completely correct dancing than, but works out somehow)
it would've been fun though to meet someone from the forum..
For me it's time for bed now (germany) - I'm gonna check in tomorrow again.
