Once again, not a clue what Mary is squeeling about.
Think that I'm hiphopped out. 2 routines a week, even with the "different styles" of hiphop gets old. But guess hiphop fans feel the same about the ballroom stuff.
At first I wondered what could have been so bad as to inspire Wooh's comments. Then I watched the episode last night on the TiVo and wow, yeah, it really was that bad. Aside from Janette and Brandon's disco, and Karla and Jonathan's contemporary piece, I felt let down a bit. Maybe it's a second week slump kind of thing? Where the first week is stellar and the second, not so much? :|I sure they do (hip-hoppers, ballroom, and boredom).
While not a great fan of hip-hop, when something like Phillip's and Janine's routine from last week happens, it gets my attention and applause. Of course, that was because it more than the "standard" hip-hop, with something new going on. Otherwise, I can only enjoy it is small doses.
Haven't seem this week's show (Wednesday is group class night for me), but sounds like its not as inspiring as last week's.
Agreed. Liked how Mary said that he was better at this than at his own style. Says a lot about a dancer's growth. Also watched the disco a second time and to look at my notes from before and after it's night and day. The first time I viewed it I was like "oh, god, not disco again..." but on the second viewing I put aside my dislike for the genre and watched it as a dancer watching a routine. Picking out the different elements (hustle, salsa, cabaret-style lifts, etc) and watching how well the two pulled it off really impressed me. Liked how Janette stumbled briefly but recovered quickly and kept on going.Seems like the second week last season was lackluster as well. Maybe it's a psychological thing for us, we were all hyped for the first show, so everything is GREAT! Second week can't help but disappoint us.
Watching a couple of them again, I do have to say, Jonathan and Karla's contemporary was better than I first thought. And much better to me than their cha was last week.
I can't say that I buy into this growth thing on him, especially just 2 episodes in. I thought he looked quite ape-ish in his contemporary attempt and I thought it was misrepresentative for Mary to make that comparison comment of him doing better with the contemporary than with "his own style". His style is salsa, street/club salsa. The style given to him last week was a funky (badly choreographed) latin ballroom cha cha. Related styles, but still at least a half world apart, imho. I felt he was just as out of his element with the contemporary as he was with the ballroom. Add to that the fact that his solo isn't impressive, and he's got a very short shelf-life.Agreed. Liked how Mary said that he was better at this than at his own style. Says a lot about a dancer's growth.
Vitolio & Asuka- Ok, practice scene was kind of ironic with Vitolio crying and Louis playing with the stereo in the background after Louis talked about how moving Vitolio's story was. So the performance was just sooooo ackward. And Mary crying... Just not getting it.
Good speechless or bad speechless?Wow. The waltz... I'm speechless.
