SYTYCD09 Week 4

Melissa & Ade- It was beautifully danced, but there just wasn't a chemistry there, I just didn't feel like they really did love each other. Technically beautiful, but I just didn't believe it.

Above all, whatever dance they do, they dance wholeheartedly and convey the choreographer's intent and go even further.

Yes, totally agree. That is why I like them together and hope they both stay around til the end. As of now, Brandon and Jeanette are my next favorites but not 100% so that may change.

I'm thinking that for the girls, maybe Kaitlin or Karla will go home and for the guys, maybe Jason or Evan. I would rather Phillip be the guy to leave. Not sure what girl I would rather have leave...maybe Melissa? Dunno....

Karla & Vitolio- It was really cute. And I loved her dress! (Except for the polka dots underneath, that was just weird when they'd show. But you can't expect too much magic from a quick change outfit.) Karla did a lot better with quickstep than Asuka did with waltz. Just don't get latin dancers with no smooth/standard experience at all. (But then again, I don't get people that pick latin over smooth/standard anyway.:)) But it was really cute. Don't know if people will vote, it IS the kiss of death after all, but it was really cute. And Vitolio looked great in the tails!

I just looked at Caitlin's costume and thought: "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"! Kept waiting for the tongue to come out.

A question: we're not supposed to believe that the dances are being drawn at random out of a hat, are we? Because obviously Melissa and Ade did not just have a 1 in 7 chance of getting that pas de deux.

Really liked Phillip and Jeanine's number with the chains. Always a risk of something like that just becoming about the gimmick, but this one worked well and was COOL!

Jeanine's slip-up about "We've got chains all over the apartment!" was pretty funny too.

My other favorite of the night was the quickstep Jean-Marc and France Genereux put together. SO CLEVER, and well-danced!!!

Um, Mia? I think Karla was supposed to look a little scared because a statue just came to life. Just sayin'....

hey CCM, i thought the same thing mia did about that scared look. i "got" its original intent, but karla held it way too long. great routine and performance though. i think theyre safe this week. i sort of missed vittolio's remarks to mia, but i thought i heard her criticize him, then him turn to ask nigel for a final say as if mia's 2 cents needed corroboration. was that what happened??

i really liked that broadway choreo!! and im usually not a broadway fan. im not sure randi & evan put enough into it to keep them out of the b3 though.

i wasnt feeling melissa & ade's pas de deux as much as the judges. i thought kaytee & will did a much more believable job with it last season (although kaytee wasnt on point). since the judges raved, i guess theyll be safe. strong couple regardless. i cant WAIT to see them tackle something gritty.

jeanette/brandon were great, can do no wrong. jeanine/phillip were great, have done wrong in the past, but phillip has a strong fan base and jeanine is just BAD knat.

kayla/kupono & jason/caitlyn both got crap choreo paired with their already barely passable dancing. though the judges somehow liked kayla/kupono. eh. im thinking these two couples will be b3, along with randi/evan.

i like that mia put it out there that the choreographer could make or break you. and she said that, what?, 2 performances after having struggled with words to describe bfree's routine? then settled on "im sure he wasnt going for genius" ROFL!!!!! classic.

Phillip & Jeanine- Was ok. Once again not my cup of tea, but I think they seemed to perform it well. Isn't this already the second time they've gotten hiphop with T&N?

Yes, it's the second time. A very unfair decision by TPTB. It appears the really want Phillip to make the top 10. I hope this does not happen because Chebeeb is by far the weakest guy. I wish the judges eliminate him today by saying, "Philip, you are the weakest link. Goodbye!"

I can barely pick my bottom 3 this week. I thought they were all really good. Not all great, but none of them were bad. It's nice to have such a strong and diverse(except for Phillip) group still left this early. I know the judges are constantly saying that every single thing that happens every moment is the best thing in the history of the show, but I actually do think this is the strongest group they've had yet.

A question: we're not supposed to believe that the dances are being drawn at random out of a hat, are we? Because obviously Melissa and Ade did not just have a 1 in 7 chance of getting that pas de deux.

****....

I agree completely. I mean....come on.....how many dancers on the show could dance on pointe? (<---not sure how that is properly expressed).

Please......seems a bit contrived to me.

My favorite routines: K&K - weird routine but they danced it so well. And Kayla is just stunning in everything she does; for once, I agree with the judges on her 100%!

The chain routine - so creative and such high risk of failure and P&J did a great job with it. I agree with others that Phillip isn't the most versatile guy and should be in the bottom 3 among guys but that routine (and his partner!) was just too good to put him there this week. I do think it's unfair he keeps getting hip-hop with Tab&Nap (love those two by the way!)... But of course they want him in the top 10 - can you imagine him on tour?! People would love him on the tour!

The cha-cha: so good! Jeannette is the bomb! And Brandon did surprisingly well with ballroom. A little too sharp and little less hip action than he needed to look totally "right" but they killed a fairly hard dance that isn't their element...

Biggest disappointment: M&A - I expected MUCH more from them, and her, on what should be her forte. There wasn't enough there for me. She looked amazing, of course, but there was no emotion there and I didn't like the choreography very much. Too hectic... Not sure why the judges oohed and aahed on that one.

My Bottom 3: Evan&Randi (didn't care for the routine), J&K (that alien thing was weird and not well-dance enough to get me past the weird) and V&K (quickstep was good but there is too much baggage with these two from pervious weeks that make me think they'll be gone this week; they didn't really BRING IT enough although, admittedly, it's hard to bring it with qstep).

Very entertaining show, as far as the dances. The highlights of the evening for me- Jeanette and Brandon's Cha and Karla and Vittolio's QS.

Weakest was the alien dance. One of those "what the hay???" moments for me.

While Phillip's notting get the love from the majority here at DF, the chain dance was good. Jeanine did fine with hip-hop so the partnership worked, and the chain gimmick went well. There was so much that could have ended in disaster from being chained together at the ankle; stepping on the chain and slipping (while Jeanine did, but fortunately a small slip when it didn't mess up the routine), getting the chain wrapped around one's feets or legs, jerking the partner off balance, etc...

Liked Randi and Evan's Broadway, as well.

Really, I enjoyed it all, even with the weirdness of the alien routine.

Cool opening number. Randi and Evan safe. Melissa and Ade are safe. Brandon and Janette are safe. Kaitlin and Jason are safe. Kaitlin was utterly shocked! Her mom, aunt and cousin were in the audience with alien tinfoil hats on in support...it must have helped. lol!

Results Show Spoilers Ahead!

Bottom 3:

Karla & Vitolio
Kayla & Kupono
Phillip & Jeanine

Of those, I think Phillip & Jeanine should be going home. But you know they want Phillip "officially" on the tour (instead of an alternate if they couldn't avoid sending him home.) Betting the judges will send Karla and Vitolio home.

I think you are right....and personally, I'd much rather have Vittolio, because I think he is a much better dancer. But we know how that goes....
