Cost of Victoria's Secret underwear: $60
Cost of Cloth and other materials: $20 (heavy discount - got lucky!)
Cost of Swarovski Crystals: $190
Expression on Peoples' Faces = Priceless!
I've still got some stones left to add (note slightly sparce stoning on drapes) but this is basically complete. It's the version of this dress I wore last week. ^_^ The dress form stretches the skirt out in an unflattering lump, and where the drape attaches (at the top of a split at the thigh) is stretched in an odd shape, but regardless of photography issues, I think I've proven what one can do with the help of Victoria's Secret, Gem-tac, and A LOT OF FRICKIN TIME.
It took a fair amount of time to make though, even though it is basically just drapes and ribbons.
Unless it's some stupidly overpriced number from a designer dressmaker, I think what we pay for these gowns is well worth the cost in hours and hours of labor. It only cost me $270 in materials (and even with the leftover stones I need to add, it still could use somemore stones) but I can understand now why dresses like these seem to start at what they do.
My future plans are to learn a little more about sewing and continue to design my own Latin gowns, but purchase my smooth/standard. I just don't think there is any way I could ever make one of those. So complicated!
