Gina - lots of dancers wear chokers still ;-)
I have a short neck so i tend to not wear them myself because it makes me look even more compressed LOL but at every comp i see chokers on many dancers. You're good!

One more thing - with regard to sizing, make sure you have enough room to breathe while you're dancing and do not literally choke. I had one necklace that was a touch small and sometimes aggravated my neck a little when I was in closed dance position for an extended period of time, leading to tension/discomfort.

Totally agreed LOL this tidbit is especially useful for those who do a lot of shaping in standard. That choker may feel real tight in that position (compared to standing upraight) ;-P

keep in mind that many teachers will suggest to not wear a necklace at first because if your posture isn't awesome yet or your neck doesn't look long, a necklace can make it look worse, cutting off any length and also drawing attention to it. I didn't wear a necklace for my first year of competing for this reason. i felt bare, but i looked better. ask your teacher what he would suggest.
I would never suggest a choker, although I sell them. They all cut your neck in half and even on a long neck you are making it look shorter. Go for a regular necklace, like in my avatar. It will enhance your neckline, without cutting it off.
I have convinced many customer to buy something different for this reason. It is not a sales pitch since the end cost is the same, it just gives a better look on the floor.
Just a note, Danceshopper gets much of the jewelry from Danz2000 - Ann at the competitions. That's the reason it can take a while for shipment, she is on the road a lot.

That is so interesting. I had told my teacher I was planning on wearing a necklace and she never said anything, but that was a while back when competition was far away...now that it's closer she may feel differently. Because posture definitely isn't awesome yet.
I'll email her and see.This makes a lot of sense and I totally agree with you. What I've discovered through this process for myself though, after trying many different necklaces is that I definitely have a long slim neck. And that if I wear necklaces that are focused on just under the neck (like the one in your picture) it actually makes my neck look too long. So I really do think a choker in my case is a good option...or a really chunky necklace that goes a little beyond just under the neck.
Yes, I'm starting to realize that a lot of the dance stores list stuff than they then have to actually get...that's why the shipping takes so long. I'll check out Danz2000, thank you - and what is your store?

I've seen some of you mention "dance shorts" - I'm thinking it may be good for me to get these even though my dress is longish and I should not be flashing anyone even when turning - but I'm thinking the shorts will give me a smoother appearance under the dress.
Where can I get these? (and do Spanx type shorts also work? In case "real" dance shorts take too long to ship...)

Danz2000 is the vendor who is at many of the competitions, her name is Ann Lew, she doesn't have an online presence beyond DanceShopper. My site is in my signature line, I don't have to order from anyone. I design and make the jewelry on my site. The few things I don't make are in stock to ship.
