UK results?

I heart that Michael and Joanna were not musical, rushing in cha-cha. People say that Ricardo and Yulia should have won

People say that Ricardo and Yulia should have won
My personal preference was for Riccardo & Yulia, but not being a Latin expert I can't really second-guess the judges because it didn't seem obvious to me why one couple should have been in front of the other.

You mean like with wired hems?
I mean like ruffles! Some were tiered like a wedding cake, some skirts ended in masses of circular ruffles, some skirts had masses of circular ruffles layered all over them. Sometimes the edges were just rolled, some had fishing line in them, and some were finished off with that extra-wide colored poly-'horsehair' stiffening that Chrisanne has been selling for a few years.

This is much more than the wired hems of five or so years ago. Think "frothy" and you'll have the right idea. :)

Just go to dancesportinfo & check on Universal 2008 & you can view the photo gallery. Then you'll see the 'ruffles' in action. Quite a scene out there with all kinds of layering & contrasting colors. Not sure if I like all the ruffles. Some was nicely done. Wonder how long that trend would last.

Like anything else, the ruffles can be really well done or really overdone. It certainly gave a 50's retro look to the dresses.

I might ruffle something on my next skirt, if I ever get around to actually making a dress. I bought fabric in Blackpool last year and still haven't done anything with it. So I bought some more of the same color when I was in Bournemouth. I have an idea, I just need to actually sit down and sew it (I have something akin to writer's block concerning sewing these days).

Pro latin results - nothing really suprising. I wasn't there, but I've been mystified by the mercurial rise of Melia since she turned pro.... seems to me to be so much more flash (and to my taste unpleasant flash) than substance there.

Sergey and Melia are coached extensively by Donnie Burns, who used them for the only series of instructional tapes he made. I'd say there's a lot of substance there.
It's a matter of taste, of course. I like them. She's a little firecracker and he is very manly. Their technique is impeccable. And their choreography actually doesn't have a lot of "flash", rather a lot of basics. But the girl is flashy, and for her style of dancing, I think that's a plus.
