USA Dance resignations

There was just a FB post by a former officer (?) asking the status of the audit. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I am pretty sure that a combination of things are going to be uncovered - the previous outgoing admin's misuse of funds or at least poor use, with the new admin finding that it was hundreds of thousands of dollars in the red and forced to continue 'sweetheart deals', the new admin's possible blundering or misuse of funds, the infighting with sides being drawn up along lines to eventually force the new admin people to leave, power struggles within with the members financing these problems. Who can tell? The first thing they will be doing will be to either tell people to contact them privately rather than answer hard questions from members (already done) or to stop discussing publicly (also part of the plan and done as well).

The fact that an official from the GC tells us that the 'approved minutes are being rewritten' and altho are required to be available to the members are somehow 'missing' for 2 years at the fault of 'google docs' LOL tells ME that rewriting history is order number one for an administration that was neither elected by the membership or has ever deigned to tell us if they are indeed going to continue with the landslide elected official's plans and promises.

Any improprieties should have been immediately released.

Just posted on the USA Dance Facebook page. I figured I should post Mr. Kellner's post here before they censor it from their page:

"The 2014 financials and audit have been mentioned in recent postings. I wanted to share my own experience with the former treasurer and president on this subject, which actually led me to file a written grievance with the US Olympic Committee.
The March 2015 Financial Report to Members invited members to contact the treasurer or president with any questions. I emailed the former treasurer and inquired about the amount of money USA Dance had spent on a strategic planner consultant, and the related expenses of strategic planning meetings.

The treasurer gave me a three month run-around and in the end neither he nor the president would release the information. So I filed a formal complaint with the USOC in July 2015, based on the USOC by-law requirements for financial transparency.
In addition to requesting the strategic planning expenses numbers, I requested compliance with USOC by-laws requiring the posting of recent audits and 990s on the USA Dance website. Also I asked the USOC to order a 2014 audit as none had been done despite USA Dance losing over $230K in 2014.

We reached a settlement to the grievance in September 2015. The old 990s and audits were posted on the USA Dance website, an auditor was engaged for a 2014 audit, and I was informed how much was spent on strategic planning by USA Dance. I withdrew my complaint in October."

It seems the GC wants to keep financial problems a secret. The parallet to Watergate is staggering. In this case, Deep Knee Bend says, "Follow the money."

do you think this will lead to the downfall of USA Dance due to lack of political clout? is there anything that can be done -- literally -- to save the organization?

Some chapters have severed ties with USA Dance around all of this.

The members have been hurt by all this; while the EC was flying around in meetings and get togethers, we were footing the bill. We voted them all in on a mandate for change from the 'old ways' (Sit down and be quiet, we know what's best was the old guard's answer to any thing...) but now we are stuck with a board that has NOBODY we voted it....

No facebook? No problem lol:

Here is what is on their page from the GC of USA Dance...:

To all of our USA Dance Pittsburgh Chapter Members --

USA Dance has received numerous letters and calls from concerned members of our chapter in the Pittsburgh area regarding the start of a new ballroom organization by the former Pittsburgh chapter leadership. Please know that USA Dance has no intentions of closing the chapter in Pittsburgh and that Pittsburgh chapter officers do not have the authority to do so.

The Chapter's Facebook page and group are now in the interim under our administrative care (Angela Prince and Efrosyni Iosiphidis as administrators), and we welcome your posts and concerns. Or, you may want to write to central-office@usadance.org or socialdance-vp@usadance.org (Jean Mills Krupa) directly.

The Governing Council is currently responding to the chapter situation, but members should know that new officers will be appointed asap, and the chapter continues enthusiastically with your participation and support to do all of the good things involving dance in your community.

No one should receive emails or Facebook posts from those who have left the Chapter leadership, as this would be considered a misuse of acquired and privileged USA Dance member information.

One member wrote today concerned that she would not receive American Dancer magazine since she understood she was "no longer a member". Please know that all current members of USA Dance in Pittsburgh continue as USA Dance members, in good standing with all benefits and resources.

We also would like to hear from members who would be interested in leading the Pittsburgh chapter. We thank you for your support and participation. We value you as volunteers and members of USA Dance.

If you need to join or renew your membership, you may do so easily online at www.usadance.org/membership.

On behalf of the Governing Council of USA Dance,
most appreciatively,

Angela Prince
Public Relations Director
