What are DJs doing wrong

The trend is definitely towards playing more digital era recordings these days (I was doing that five years ago already)
The Orquesta Romantica Milonguera hype was around 2017/2018...
As far as the vintage stuff goes I classify orchestras as golden age if they were founded in the golden age period 1935-45 ish (late d'Arienzo is still d'Arienzo), I classify the ones founded after that as silver age, and that folder isn't large enough that I'd play more than one or two tandas typically.
You can define it that way, but is it relevant for djing? Anyone who claims I have to play X tandas of D'Arienzo tandas will get a rejection from me anyway.

I'm more interested in how the instruments sound, how much reverb there is, what role the singer plays. And yes, if I darken the room, put on good headphones and concentrate hard, I can hear some differences between a D'Arienzo from 1935 and one from 1970.

Does that include bands covering the classics in the style of the original orchestra ? If so, I wonder if that would change the forum member's opinions.
Many milonga visitors would welcome it if modern orchestras played the old songs. The music sounds more present and more transparent, there is no noise or crackling. Nevertheless, I still use the classic repertoire of the old orchestras. They have influenced me and as a DJ I also have a wider choice of pieces when putting together consistent tandas. I only use modern retro-style orchestras where they have produced new material, such as the Beatles covers by Romantica Milonguera.

I know it has been said before, but in many cases 3-song tanda are just about right, whereas 4-song tandas can be too long, especially if you're trying to squeeze in dances with others. It also means people not dancing have to wait longer than they'd like.

Last night we went to a milnoga and (generally) go for 2, maybe 2.5 hours since my SO suffers from pain in her left hip/glutes. It's never noticeable when she's dancing, but at home afterwards it gives her enough grief that it interrupts her sleep so we don't push too hard.

Anyways, there's one older matriarch in our community who's known for her boldness and walks around asking leaders to dance, especially me. She always makes it a point of coming over to our table and straight-up asking me, so knowing we had 4-song tandas I put it off as long as I could. Sure, other leaders danced with her, but I'm always in her sights. So not wanting to create any disharmony I did my "duty" and danced one 4-song tanda.

She's relatively good for her age, but isn't as nimble as others, so I don't execute any complicated steps. Plus there are plenty of other (older) leaders, many of whom aren't seen dancing much, who should be doing their part dancing with the ladies in their age group.

So, I'm like others who believe 4-song tandas are too long, something DJ's should realize.

It is more on the organizers. If they tell DJs that it is going to be 3 song Tanda, DJs will prepare for that.

Many here DJ. I don’t. I do not think the DJs will have a challenge to drop one song from their 4-song tanda play list. It should be easier to compose a 3-song tanda. Only those who DJ can opine if that is true.

P.S. - For the umpteenth time, I never been to a milonga with three songs tanda yet. That includes all the cities and places I danced. I would prefer a 3 song tanda.
