When changing shoes, mirada/cabeceo works just like it does otherwise. If I look at the lady in question reproachfully, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But there are never any negative reactions.

Of course, my experience refers to my first big milongas around 2002, at that time cabeceo-mirada had not yet been invented or widespread. So I had to listen up close to my personal condemnation of my impudence in asking someone who was just taking off her shoes.

The milonga where I play about once a month has a rather conservative audience and the organizer also expects a more traditional repertoire. I am slowly but steadily trying to reduce this proportion in my sets to under 70%. The age is 50-70 yrs, with a slight surplus of followers and a same-sex couple that always dances WCS to the cortinas.
Based on my introduction, what would you expect the participants to react to the following vals replacement tanda?

It's very hard to tell how people will react, as even traditional music fans might enjoy the occasional surprise.
Personally I like both Androgyne and Nothing Else Matters, but the droning violin in that first one would literally have my ears in pain ...

This tanda had something like a cathartic effect. The dance floor was full, after the last note everyone breathed out, hugged their dance partner again and went to their chairs without much chatter. Then lots of people came to me at the console. People of the same age thanked me for finally being able to dance to Androgyne again after twenty years. The newcomers asked me what the title was.
Admittedly, the first piece is quite simple. But I also wanted to gradually increase the complexity within the tanda. In particular, I wanted to prepare the strong syncopation of Androgyne.

I usually play it in a waltz tanda around 9pm together with other waltzes by Umebayashi. I only play non-danceable tandas. (And I define what non-danceable means as I also was a swing, salsa, BR dancer).
All tango dancers always enjoy dancing this waltz in a tanda. Many come to my console asking for the title. Those who know the film remain standing in deep embrace looking moved.
I never did and never will play OTV in my DJ sets. Tell me the name of the guy who did!

Lovely piece of music but not a cortina. Everyone would simply keep dancing or assume that it was the beginning of a new tanda of alternative music. Also one of my favorite movies. So damn beautiful.
