What is tango doing wrong: #1 - tandas

The last 3-day weekend event I went to I brought:
6 shirts
4 pairs of pants
1 pair dance shoes
And all the other normal stuff

in a carry-on + backpack, without having to resort to any clever packing hacks. Easy in the summer, but harder in the cooler periods where I'd want bulkier items for the non-dancing times.
Many airlines have got strict about carryon weighing less than 8Kgs. In Europe where flights are cheap most low cost airlines don’t allow a second item like backpack. Only one item in the cabin. You can check for 30 Euros and sometimes it is worth it. Penalties are stiff if they stop you at the gate and weigh the carry on. It is done often. International flights are easier. Most are relaxed about not checking how much carry on weighs. They allow you an extra item like laptop bag, backpack, purse etc.

The best way to carry the bulky item during winters is to wear them on in person. Find a two layer jacket or overcoat, a thin pure wool sweater. Usually 2 pair of pants (in the luggage) besides the one you wear on the flight is enough for 7-8 days trip.

You can wash shirts or pants after dancing and leave it for a day to dry. You want to pack shirts that are both light weight and will dry quickly. Bamboo, linen, silk shirts are all light and quick to dry. They are also good to dance. A light jacket can be worn on person.

Oh, interesting. In the US they rarely weigh carry-on bags unless they look suspiciously heavy. I have no idea what mine weighs when fully loaded. We have Basic fares which only include a personal item (underseat), but no fares I know of that only have a carry-on, thank goodness.
