Ugh. Why I can't go to a zumba class already knowing all the steps? They don't have a mirror, they face us, so everything is backwards and my brain won't process it and send directions to my body so I just stand there looking dumb. Some of the time, some times I did good. It had too much hip hop music. And it had a bachata song. Um, it's just not as much fun with no body in your arms. No thanks.

Not wanting to disparage them, but there seems to be so many "dancers" (darn! I just disparaged them!) out there who have no concept of partner dancing. The biggest local singles dances are mainly free-style dancers. I've been to events like that before. It's virtually impossible to find anybody there who knows how to dance!

the instructor is the most popular salsa and latin dance instructor in our area. haha. not best, most popular.

no problem...I believe you...and I hope it works out for you...and trust me, I don't need a delay on my tax check either...which will likely all go to a small down payment on a major structural repair to my retaining wall...which kind of keeps my house from sliding down a sand dune

May I be excited and geeky at the mention of retaining walls and note that I work at a structural engineering office?

have to cantor mass today and then actually getting paid to sing confirmation at the cathedral...and I am freaking losing my voice...lovely...Spring allergies...a pox on you and your house!!!!!

Laptop doesn't think it has a cd/dvd drive any more. Glitchiness continues. I really don't want to have to replace it. Really don't want to. We've only had it for about a year and a half--was hoping to get several more out of it. Sigh.

oh...and I would like to politely request that all of my important people be on the same continent safe and sound as soon as possible...this is getting OLD

Do you have a 'puter geek available to you? You may have a simple hardware connection issue that can fixed. Or you may need to replace the CD drive. You might have a software issue of the drive not being "seen" even though the hardware and connections are working.

There are quite a few possibilities that would probably be cheaper to fix than buying a new computer... cheaper, that is, if you know someone other than the Best Buy Geek Squad to do it for you in exchange for a good meal and the price of parts. Or even a fair hourly rate.

I had my hard drive completely replaced (with a newer model that had twice as much capacity!) and all the old info put on the new one, for less than the cost of a new laptop (including parts and labor). The old drive was cloned so the information could be cloned onto the new drive without "installing" everything. Granted, I had a friend who gave me his "aquaintence discount" (and sold me the drive at his wholesale cost) but even the "full fare" repair would have been less than a decent new laptop. It only took him about an hour to do the active work. (The drive cloning back and forth simply churned away on it's own while he did other things, so he didn't charge for that time.)

You must know at least one geek?

Yeah, there are a few people I could probably ask to help in exchange for stuff. It's been glitchy for a while now...I think it was either dropped or knocked off the couch somehow. There's a crack in the frame and some other stuff that just appeared out of nowhere...about the same time it started acting up. Running diagnostics and some other stuff (thanks to a friend) got it significantly less temperamental. But now it doesn't like the drive, or doesn't realize it has one. Gr.

Don't know if this is a Whine or a "Life is Hard" subject...

Why is it that no matter how I do, I'm never satisfied? I suppose it's the only way to grow - always be aware of where improvement can be made - but it leaves me discouraged more than inspired. :(

Any ideas how to be less hard on myself?

Focus on how far you've come? What can you do (do well) now that you didn't used to be able to do (well)? Enjoy the journey?

Alternatively, burn out and learn not to give a [fig]?
