Whining Thread #4

Electric. And I use the toothpick-in-the-middle test on just about anything in the oven.

My mother, an excellent baker, preferred gas stoves, but as a small child I briefly set my bathrobe sleeve on fire reaching across a burner. She clapped a dish towel around it to smother the small flame and my arm wasn't burned, but it scared me off gas forever. I learned to cook and bake in high school on electric stoves, instead of at home.

LOL I meant @Pryn: do you have gas or electric?
Gas.

Update for those curious on the Great Box Cake Debacle of 2026...

I was able to cook it for an extra 30 mins (at 25 degrees lower than box temp setting) to get it cooked all the way through. It was then solid enough to flip and slather in icing. I put a non-edible decorative piece in the middle to encourage cutting around it.

And they ate cake! :D
(My pride is healing and no rush orders to the grocery store were needed after all.)

Saw the podiatrist... so less whiny: it's a small break in the 5th metatarsal (i.e toe side) of the right foot. It does not go all the way through the bone. The location of the break is not near a joint so that's favorable to healing.

I can report that it doesn't really hurt except if I walk. The pain is when I flex and put weight on the outside of front of the foot. So dancing is out for a while. I'll see her again in 4 weeks and get an xray.

I thought I was "over reacting"-- and doing so on purpose. Because it doesn't hurt that much. But I knew I didn't want to 'gut it out' for a week until it didn't heal because they if it turned out broken, that would potentially delay healing. (My history has been to delay seeing the doctor, which honestly, if often just fine.)

I will NOT be dancing Crystal Ball which starts June 11. I will go watch Jim dance it. Smooth pro said I need to bling out my boot. So I'm looking into that. (There are DYI projects for boot covers. I can get some lycra and bling it!! Should I go tasteful? Or Tacky? I think the latter?)

I'd go for as much bling as possible! Hope it heals quickly!

In case there were any doubts, the correct answer is to shine like a lovely star in the sky... and blind all the lucky dancers with two working feet.
Based on medical advice, that will have to wait a month or two after Crystal ball. I'm wearing a medical boot right now and will definitely be wearing it for four weeks. Four weeks from today is June 8. Then I have an xray. After that, the doctor decides if I stop wearing the boot.

Since it's a "small" break, I hope I can be back to dancing then. But Crystal ball starts June 11, so there is no time to practice. And I won't know what the doctor will say. I might be ok to not wear the boot, but still not ok to do anything involving rising on my toes.

I asked ChatGPT for ideas....
