haha, yeah, thanks for the translation DFL. I had fixed most of those smooth names, n ot sure how I pasted my shorthand copy.
I did better on smooth/rhythm because I generally knew the name of at least half the couples before they even announced them. So only had to pay attention to a couple.
THe level of the dancing was definitely amazing, can think of at LEAST 5 ohio finalist/champions (RS or open) that were there, and I suspect I'm missing a lot more off that list. That made things harder on the couples I was cheering for of course, but made for amazing dancing to watch.
Met Ireniecat and LCDancesport (Finally
), and reintroduced myself to Borbala. Great dancing in all events, even International, which I have no skills in judging, but sure enjoyed watching it. The Paramanovs(sp?) particularly caught my eye in Latin.
Best part of the night was completely unexpected though. I had standing room only tickets and was standing in back. A bit into night a guy came and stood by me. Woman came by to ask his feedback on her dancing in smooth, and then later she and partner came to talk to him. I thought I recognized them as Greg and Erin Marie, so when they left, I asked the man. When he said yes, I explained that I had asked because local pro couple is working with her and have really found her helpful. I figured between that and how well they dance, anyone they're asking for advice is worth listening to. Still didn't know who he was, but kept shamelessly eavesdropping as people continued asking him for advice, critiques, etc. Wasn't until an hour or two later that someone talking to him said bit along lines of "I'm trying to look more like your wife Shalene" or something like that. Then of course I figured out who was standing next to me and was dumbstruck. Managed not to say anything stupid or act like a gushing fan, but continued to listen to everything Ben had to say. Most was way out of my league, since it was almost all pros tonight, but still sure I learned a ton. Plus he was obviously really willing to share his experience/knowledge with all those people, which was really cool.
Anyway, that's enough for now, will probalby have some more feedback on the comp tomorrow.
