With whom would you learn to dance? A friend, a boyfriend/girlfriend, or maybe alone?

instructors often compensate for our weaknesses without us knowing it and we think we're better than we actually are.
This is true for Leads also, when dancing with an Advanced Follower or even highly experienced Intermediate. It is SO much easier to Lead when the follower helps you out.

in fact, with Advanced followers the distinction between leading and following almost ceases to exist.

I believe I've suggested that partner dancing is like a conversation between two people. A beginner leader needs to enunciate loudly and clearly (and use small words LOL). An advanced leader can "talk" quieter, and use a larger vocabulary. A beginner follower needs to pay very close attention to the "words." An advanced follower can basically get the gist of the conversation without having to concentrate on the words.

(The conversation isn't necessarily unidirectional, of course.)

My experiences differs. As a beginner all followers regularly veered right when I tried to lead them to the left (or the other way round). Of course I was quite an arrogant beginner and I think they tried to teach me a lesson. They also used my delays to launch decorations and fill in frills. So sometimes I was not master of my own dance. :p

My teacher insists on dancing like I led her! It’s awful! :)
