What to wear for "night club" type dances in competition?

Yep- check to see... if they are on a different day, there’s themes a lot now. I’ve worn sequined disco rompers, a practice dress with jewelry... heck, one time it was super hero themed and my teacher dressed as Thor and I was Wonder Woman. Themed club nights seem to be how people are...

    injury on the dance floor

Are you having any other wierd issues? The reason I ask is I had issues with the top of my foot off and on for a year with no relief- then I had a wierd inflammation issue in my eye and my opthamologist actually recommended I go to a rheumatologist. Turns out, I have ankylosing spondylitis -...

    pre-competition disorder

Don’t worry! Are you talking Argentine tango? Those heats are often uncontested or maybe a couple of competitors so don’t think of it as the biggest comp in the country for AT. The extra club dances are usually lighter at Ohio because everyone is mostly focused on the scholarship

    pre-competition disorder

Heatlists for Ohio are never posted beforehand. In fact, they are usually not online at all until the event begins.

Survey - How Many Entries at a Comp

I dance more heats when I have new routines or moved to a new level. For example, when I went to open rhythm, I went back to doing 4 single rounds plus champ and scholarship because I felt like every round on a computer floor felt like a month of lessons. It helped me progress that much and...

    Closed Gold Rhythm

I’ve done some closed gold. Essentially we’ve been told that they re your open routines but you have to start in closed facing each other position. That’s what we were told from Dennis Rogers. So we have one routine and start it at different points to be closed gold. And I know they’re...

    The Business of Pro-am

One of my teachers is from Ukraine and he’s a top 6 couple (and was a national champion in another style as well) and he and his partner both have a ton of competing students. He had 5 students on Latin day alone at usdc. Where he was also competing

I can't be the only one... (shoe heel height related)

I wear 3.5 Latin shoes with a skinny heel- no flare. Have for years.

Ohio Star Ball Friday pro/am - conflicts

Team match is invitation only- you have to earn your spot in the team match based on your dancesport series points. The teams are made up of the regions and are full of the people who have essentially done the most comps.

Ohio Star Ball Friday pro/am - conflicts

Yep- open rhythm Wednesday night and open smooth singles Thursday day and multis Thursday night. And the dancesport championships are the scholarships. Toughest comp in the country and so so fun to be a part of- the energy is awesome!

Ohio Star Ball Friday pro/am - conflicts

If you’re actually an open dancer, then your competitions aren’t on Friday. It would be earlier in the week- dancesport series open level. I did the open silver champs last year- it was the first time they were done. It was kind of a joke really. Not the main ballroom, a handful of people...

    Best New Songs

This is more of a merengue- too slow for salsa

    pre-competition disorder

you can always drop out of a comp - things happen. you can't always expect not to pay for it. Since the other person had already paid for her share, and had possibly agreed to participate due to the cost share, eating the pros expenses is pretty common for this situation

Black Gowns (and other ways to shoot yourself in the foot)

Interesting from me as well - I recently competed in a black latin dress. in fact, it was a black latin practice wrap dress, that i had a few jet stones added and wore with big AB jewelry. Very understated. Very "I don't need all your bling, just look at my dancing." (in reality it's...

    Choosing a style; specialization; FOMO

I started in rhythm and did that exclusively for 2 years. Then added Latin. Then last year added smooth. Yes, I now progress in each of them individually slower than if I only worked on one, but I’ve actually found just how much they are connected and the things I work on in smooth makes my...

IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

How often do you wear your shoes? How often are you replacing the heel? I've never had that happen to me, but I've also never worn a pair of shoes longer than a year. Most of my dance shoes get about 6 months wear before they're done for. My Aida's with the suede heel cups lasted the...

Nashville Starz 2018 - Roll Call

The event was sold last year so this is the first year with the new organizers - Andre and Natalie paramonov. It’s also on a different weekend than in years past. But if it’s anything like the last, it’s a nice midsize comp- a great first comp to attend.

    Blackpool Teacher/Student vs Pro/am

I totally understand that. What I'm saying is that the distinctions in the rules is the same distinctions that separate USA dance teacher/student from ndca pro/am. It is the same thing.
