What is the Hip Lift Technique?

So from your own perspective as an adjudicator, how do you see HLT making couple #1 more competitive over couple #2 or #3, etc.? The fact that couple #1 has another "tool in their toolbox" to make the action their own? Input and feedback is much appreciated.

What is the Hip Lift Technique?

But the point is to do the opposite, I thought? To differentiate Rhythm from Latin...?

What is the Hip Lift Technique?

Question - who do we see in pro rhythm finals who uses this technique? I mean, currently. Pros on the circuit now.

What is the Hip Lift Technique?

Thanks for the recap, Purr. Did BS happen to mention where to look for more information on this "dance camp for American style dancing"?

Gently used Standard shoes for sale

I wore these shoes three times before I decided Standard wasn't for me! Stephanie brand, US size 6, 2 inch heel. Check out the pictures - they're practically new. These retail for $80, but make me an offer that includes shipping USPS. I'm happy to send these to an owner that will help them...

How do you and your partner make plans and goals?

So there's lots to consider in planning and goal setting: lessons and training (on the floor) training (outside the ballroom - yoga, pilates, barre, strength training, etc) outside coaching - who to see? which comps to do which workshops to do which dances to overhaul which dances to polish up...

    2016 USA Dance Nationals

Not in my experience. Attended a local comp last winter where Nazar and Irina were the judges. We got a written feedback sheet from them that our swing was "too jivey." That was when we hadn't gotten a new swing routine yet from our new coach. She's since made changes. Much different in feel, in...

    2016 USA Dance Nationals

I saw one couple do the same routine in Latin (jive) as they did when they competed in rhythm (swing). They placed really well in "swing." o_O THAT is why there is a need for more rhythm adjudicators on national panels. There will always be judges' bias in one form or another, however, get...

    2016 USA Dance Nationals

Agreed with "consistency in inconsistency" - it doesn't make sense that one couple happened to suck only when this one judge was watching. I think scores like this mean: That judge hasn't ever seen this couple before, and has seen the other couples at other comps, and has seen other couples...

    2016 USA Dance Nationals

    I didn't see judges' marks that were inconsistent between levels, I saw judges' marks that were inconsistent in each round. For example: 1 1 2 3 1 2 1 6 2 2 1 2 1 1 1 6 2 2 2 3 1 1 1 6 ......................etc. :jawdrop::mad:

    2016 USA Dance Nationals

I would have liked to see more rhythm experts on the judging panel. Only one adjudicator's bio specifically mentioned rhythm. Of the 22 adjudicators total, only 2 other bios didn't mention style, just degrees/certifications. So much about rhythm has been clarified in the past few years...

    Dance Instructor Leeway

At our last coaching, we danced with our regular coach's extraordinarily talented husband. In 18 months with our coach, we've never had a lesson from him (his primary expertise is a style we don't study). Not even three minutes in, I was not moving the way he expected to see, so he took my...

Pro/am Requirement to Dance Heats to do Championships

I don't think I've had to dance more than 10 single dance events to be able to do a scholarship. I don't mind; I recognize that ballroom isn't going to pay for itself! And I've never competed with more than 15 heats in addition to any challenges or scholarships. It's one of the ways I keep my...

    Recently started dancing (agin)

Hi Bubblybear, welcome to DF! If you want to be a bubblier bear, my advice has little to do with dance and more to do with this crushing shyness you're experiencing. Google Toastmasters and see if there's a local group in your area. The Toastmasters organization is a public speaking one and...

    Footrise in Bolero

From this Jan 7, 2014 article from DanceSport Place: "The Three Rumbas: American, International, and Bolero": On the Bolero section: "Being the slowest of the three rumbas, the bolero technique is quite different. Because the depth of the knee action is more accentuated in this dance, there...
